It was an historic day for Indian badminton as Lakshya Sen defeated Yusuke Onodera of Japan to win his first BWF World Tour title in the finals of Dutch Open played at Almere, Netherlands on Sunday.
Lakshya Sen did not get off to a great start as his opponent took a 9-3 lead. Despite Sen reducing the gap to 13-14, Onodera played with aggressive intent and showed his class to win the first set at 21-15.

In the 2nd game, both players took alternate points and were neck to neck till 12-11. Sen took 6 points in succession to race towards 18-11 lead. The Indian continued never gave Yusuke Onodera a chance to win the 2nd set at 21-14 to force the match into the decider.

The third game saw Sen play with aggression right from word go over Onodera. It was a dominating display by the Indian who showed his class to dominate the Japanese opponent to win the third set at 21-15 and win his first major BWF World title.

In the Dutch Open 2019, Sameer and Sourabh Verma were knocked in earlier rounds. This will do a lot of good for the young Indian shuttler who proved his worth on the world stage. His opponent Onodera who qualified from the qualifiers defeated the top seed Sameer Verma in the quarterfinals.
Sen had won Belgian International last month. He has won title at Junior level winning silver at the Youth Olympics, bronze at the World Championship last year and is the Asian Junior Championship.
He showed great badminton skills in Dutch Open 2019.

In the first two rounds, Sen won matches in two straight sets. Against Coelho, the Indian had to fight hard before winning in three sets. It augurs well for Indian badminton and let us hope this is the start something great for young Indian shuttler who trains at Prakash Padukone Academy at Bangalore.
