Indian women versus South African women 4th T20I: Indian women outclass South African women to win the series.
The Indian women’s team produced a dominating performance as
they defeated South Africa by 51 runs to win the series played at Lalbhai
Contractor Stadium, Surat on Tuesday.
In a rain-curtailed match to 17 overs a side due to rain,
South African captain Sune Luus won the toss and decided to field first.
Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana survived many chances as South African fielders
were not up to the mark on the field. The youngster Shafali played with
positive intent and took on South African bowlers. At the end of 5 overs,
Indian openers took them to 31 for 0.
After the power play overs, Verma continued to ride his luck
with drop catches. De Klerk got the breakthrough dismissing Smriti Mandhana for
13. Both openers added 52 runs. After surviving so many chances, Shafali Verma
was bowled by Sekhukhune for 46 off 33 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur came to the crease
and scored a quickfire 16 off 9 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma added
40 runs for the 4th wicket. Rodrigues scored quickfire 20 off 16
balls. India eves ended on 140 for 4 in 17 overs.
Chasing the target of 141 runs to win, it was not an ideal
start for South African eves as Lizelle Lee was run out by Pooja Vastrakar
cheaply. Brits and Laura Wolvaardt tried to steady the innings as they scored
33 for 1 at the end of 5 overs.
Radha Yadav dismissed Wolvaardt for 23. Both South African
batters added 39 runs for the 2nd wicket. Poonam Yadav got quick
wickets of N de Klerk and Mignon du Preez in successive deliveries to put South
Africa under immense pressure. The Indian bowlers never allowed South African
women to score runs easily. South African women scored just 89 for 7 in 20
overs. Indian women won the match by 51 runs.
Indian women 140 for 4 in 17 overs ( Shafali Verma 46, Jemimah
