Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League Stage Day 2
It was another exciting day of cricket in the Syed Mushtaq
Ali Super League stage as Haryana defeated Rajasthan while Baroda won a
thrilling encounter against Delhi in Group A. In Group B, Tamil Nadu won their
first match and Karnataka registered a thrilling win over Jharkhand.
Group A.
Haryana versus Rajasthan
Haryana started the Super League stage with a comfortable 4
wicket win over Rajasthan played at CB Patil International Stadium, Surat on
Friday. Rajasthan captain Mahipal Lomror won the toss and decided to bat first.
Manender Singh and Lamba started on a cautious note putting on 21 runs for the
first wicket. A brilliant run out by Rahul Tewatia ended Manender Singh for 17.
Harshal Patel dismissed Mahipal Lomror for 5.
Lamba and Rajesh Bishnoi steadied the Rajasthan innings
adding 27 runs for the 3rd wicket. Lamba showed his class with a top-quality
knock scoring 38 runs. CK Chundwat provided the impetus for Rajasthan scoring
quick fire 25 off 14 balls. Rajasthan posted 123 for 7 in 20 overs. Rahul
Tewatia was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 18.
Chasing 124 runs to win, Chaityana Bishnoi and Harshal Patel
provided a quick-fire start to the innings adding 26 runs for the first wicket
in just 3 overs. Bishnoi was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed. Harshal Patel played a
blinder of an innings scoring 41 off 25 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Rajasthan cameback into the match reducing Haryana to 87 for
5. Rohit Sharma and Sumit Kumar steadied the innings adding 32 runs for the 6th
wicket. Sumit Kumar and Jayant Yadav helped Haryana to win match by 4 wickets
with 28 balls to spare.
Delhi versus Baroda
Baroda registered a thrilling 1 run win over Delhi played at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat on Friday.
Delhi captain Dhurv Shorey won the toss and decided to bowl
first. Kedar Devdhar and Waghmode provided a decent start adding 29 runs for
the opening wicket. Lalit Yadav got the breakthrough for Delhi dismissing the
dangerous Kedar Devdhar for 12. Deepak Hooda and Aditya Waghmode steadied the
Baroda innings putting pressure on Delhi bowling line up. Both added 53 runs
for the 2nd wicket.
Delhi bowlers picked wickets of Deepak Hooda and Waghmode
went in quick succession to leave Baroda at 84 for 3. Nitish Rana was quite
impressive picking 2 wickets. Ninad Rathva and Vishnu Solanki added important
runs at the end and helped Baroda post 151 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing down 152 runs to win, Hiten Dalal and K Baduri got
off to a flying start adding 35 runs in 3.3 overs. BA Pathan got the
breakthrough dismissing Dalal for 22. It was an impressive bowling effort by
Baroda bowlers to Delhi at 83 for 5. Delhi kept losing wickets at regular
intervals but Bidhuri held the innings together.
With 18 runs required off the final over, Bidhuri was
dismissed in the last over. Subodh Bhati hit some big shots to give Delhi a
chance of winning the match but Arothe held his nerves to win Baroda a
thrilling 1 run win.
Baroda registered their 2nd win of the Super
League stage after defeating Rajasthan by 15 runs in the first match.
Group B
Tamil Nadu versus Mumbai
After losing their first match to Karnataka by 9 wickets,
Tamil Nadu came back strongly to defeat Mumbai by 7 wickets played at CB Patel
International Stadium, Surat.
Tamil Nadu captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and decided
to field first. It was an ideal start for TN as Sai Kishore dismissed Aditya
Tare and Siddarth got the wicket of Mumbai captain Surya Kumar Yadav to leave
Mumbai at 2 for 2. Prithvi Shaw and Mulani steadied the innings with aggressive
stroke play adding 42 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Apart from Mulani 73 off 52 balls and Shaw 30 off 19 balls,
Mumbai could only score 121 for 9. M Siddarth was the pick of bowlers for Tamil
Nadu with 4 for 16 and R Sai Kishore took 3 for 18.
In reply, Shahrukh Khan and Hari Nishanth provided a flying
start adding 35 in 3.4 overs. Mulani dismissed Shahrukh and Baba Aparajith to
give Mumbai hope. Hari Nishanth showed his class with clean hitting to remain
not out on 73 off 44 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Nishanth and Vijay Shankar
added unbeaten 73 runs for the 4th wicket. Tamil Nadu won the match
by 7 wickets with 37 balls to spare.
Karnataka versus Jharkhand
Karnataka registered a thrilling 13 run win over Jharkhand to
make it 2 out of 2 wins played at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat.
Jharkhand captain Sourabh Tiwary won the toss and decided to
field first. The decision backfired as Devdutt Paddikal and KL Rahul put the
Jharkhand bowlers under pressure right from word go. Both took the advantage of
the power play overs. Sonu Singh dismissed KL Rahul for 36 off 28 balls.
Karnataka openers added 114 runs in 9.3 overs.
Paddikal played a gem of an innings and was dismissed for 63
off 30 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Jharkhand bowlers pulled it back in the
death overs. Karnataka posted 189 for 6 in 20 overs. Sonu Singh was the pick of
bowlers for Jharkhand with 3 for 28.
Chasing 190 runs to win, it was a slow start for Jharkhand
as Utkarash Singh and Anand Singh scored 31 runs for first wicket in 4.4 overs.
Virat Singh and Utkarash added 46 runs for the 2nd wicket. Jharkhand
kept losing wickets and were 103 for 4 in the 14th over. Virat Singh
kept Jharkhand in the game with some big hits.
Sumit Kumar also joined with a quick fire 23 off 16 balls.
With 24 runs required off final over, Virat hit a big six but Koushik held his
nerves to win the match by 13 runs. Virat and Sumit added 73 runs for the 5th
wicket.
