West Indies crush Afghanistan by 9 wickets to win one-off Test match
West Indies took no time to defeat Afghanistan by 9 wickets
early on day 3 in one-off Test match played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari
Vajyeepe Ekana International Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.
Afghanistan started the 3rd day on 109 for 7. It
was a brilliant start for West Indies as Jason Holder dismissed Rashid Khan
with a beauty of a delivery. West Indies captain was superb with his line and
lengths which were too good for Afghanistan batsmen. Holder took wickets of
Zazai and Ahmadzai to bowl out the hosts Afghanistan for 120. Chase, Cornwall
and Holder took 3 wickets each in the 2nd innings.
With the target of 31 runs to win, John Campbell looked in
aggressive mood and wanted to the finish the match in a hurry. Aamir Hamza
dismissed Kraigg Braithwaite cheaply for 8. West Indies openers added 22 runs. The
left-handed John Campbell hit the winning runs with a boundary to help West
Indies with the match easily by 9 wickets.
Rakheem Cornwall proved his worth in this Test finishing
with 10 wickets. Brooks also showed his class against a top-quality spin
bowling attack of Afghanistan scoring 111 runs.
Cornwall registered his career best figures of 7 for 75 in
the first innings to bowl out Afghanistan for 187. Brooks was superb with his
batting in the 1st innings scoring against Rashid Khan, Zahir Khan
and Aamir Hamza. He made 111 which helped West Indies gain a strong 90 run
lead.
Despite a solid 53 runs stand for the opening wicket between
Ibhraim Zadran and Javed Ahmadi in the 2nd innings, Cornwall was
superb with his bowling effort taking 3 wickets. Chase and Holder did the job
for West Indies to bowl out the hosts cheaply in the 2nd innings.

Shane Dowrich 42, Rashid Khan 1/24, Amir Hamza 5/74, Rashid Khan 3/114, Zahir
Khan 2/53) and 33 for 1 in 6.2 overs (
