BWF World Tour Finals: PV Sindhu loses to Chen Yufei, crash out of the tournament


PV Sindhu lost her second successive Group A match against Chen Yufei of China in three sets by 22-20, 16-21, 12-21 to be knocked out of the tournament of the BWF World Tour finals played at Tinahe Gymnasium, Guangzhou on Thursday. With this loss, Sindhu failed to defend her title that she won in 2018.
Sindhu had a disappointing start to the first game committing lot of errors and was trailing 17-20. The Indian saved three game points and levelled the score at 20-20. She held her nerves and took 2 more points to win the first game at 22-20.

The second game was a closely fought encounter right from word go. The Chinese played aggressive badminton and from 12-11 lead, Chen took 4 points in succession. Again from 16-12 up, Chen did not allow the Indian to play her natural game and won the 2nd game at 21-16 to force the game into the decider.
In the decider, Sindhu played great exchange with great drop shots and smashes. The Indian had a slender 11-10 lead at the interval. After the interval, the Indian looked out of sorts and committed a few errors which allowed Chen to put a strong grip on the match. From 16-11 up, Chen did not allow Sindhu into the match and won the third set easily 21-12 to knock Sindhu out of the tournament.
Akane Yamaguchi defeated He Bingjao in three sets 25-27, 21-10, 21-13. With both Yamaguchi and Chen with 2 wins each, both have qualified for the semi-finals. He Bingjao and Sindhu will play their last league on Friday.

Sindhu had lost her first Group A match to Akane Yamaguchi in three gruelling sets by 21-18, 18-21, 8-21. It was a close fought game in the first set as both players made great efforts. The Indian held her nerves to win the 1st game at 21-18. In the 2nd game, Sindhu had a aggressive start taking a 12-7 lead. The Japanese fought back strongly into game to reduce the gap and levelled the score at 18-18. Yamaguchi won the 2nd set easily at 21-18.

In the third game, Yamaguchi played with aggressive and took a 5-0 lead. She did not look back and won the decider easily at 21-8.
