This Day That Year: Rohit Sharma made his ODI debut
On 23rd June 2007, Rohit Sharma made his ODI
debut for India against Ireland. He did not get a chance to bat in the innings
as India won the match easily by 9 wickets.
Rohit was a middle-order batsman and not able to convert
performance into big scores. His life changed when Indian captain MS Dhoni promoted
him to open the innings in the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Now, he is one of the best white-ball cricketers in the
world. He has played so far 224 matches (217 innings) and scored 9115 runs with
an average of 49.42. During his ODI career, Rohit has hit 29 centuries and 43
half-centuries which have helped India win many matches.
He holds the record of most 150 plus scores with 8. Apart
from that he, the opener is the only batsman in ODI cricket to hit 3 double
centuries, 2nd most 125 plus scores which show about his consistency.
Rohit Sharma created an impact with timing, big-hitting and putting the
pressure back on the bowlers with his stroke play.
Rohit Sharma was in sensational form during the 2019 World
Cup as he kept on piling the runs. He was the leading run-scorer with 648 runs
