Stuart Broad jumps significantly in the latest ICC Test bowlers’ rankings


After a match-winning performance in the 3rd Test match against West Indies at Old Trafford, Manchester on 28th July, Stuart Broad jumps significantly in the latest ICC Test bowlers’ rankings announced today.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins retains the top spot. He has been occupying the bowlers ranking in Test matches for quite some time. New Zealand left-arm pacer Neil jumps one place to number 2nd in the rankings. Cummins and Wagner have not played any international cricket since March.

Stuart Broad jumps 7 places up to his career-best rankings of number 3. He was instrumental in helping England register a commanding 269 runs during the 3rd Test match against West Indies at Old Trafford, Manchester. Broad took 10 wickets in the match and became the 7th bowler in Test Cricket to achieve the feat of taking 500 wickets. Broad reached his career-best rankings of number 3rd in August 2016. 

Tim Southee remains static at number 4th in the bowler’s rankings. He has not played for New Zealand since the 2 match Test series against India at home. West Indies captain Jason Holder slips down to number 5th in the bowler’s rankings. He took only 2 wickets in the 3rd Test match against England. Holder was number 2nd but due to poor performances, he could not sustain his place.
South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada also slipped down to number 6th in the rankings.  Australian spearhead Mitchell Starc slips one place to number 7th.

India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah slips one place down to the number 8th ranked bowler. New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood completes the top 10 rank bowlers in Test matches.

The top 10 bowlers ranking in Test matches is being dominated by pace bowlers. Southee, Rabada, Starc, Bumrah, Boult, and Hazlewood have not played long format cricket for the last 4 months.
