CPL Match 16: Trinbago Knight Riders beat Guyana Amazon Warriors to continue their winning streak
Trinbago Knight Riders continued their winning streak as
they defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by a convincing manner in the 16th
match of CPL played at Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Thursday.
Knight Riders captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and
decided to field first. Playing his first match of this tournament, Sikander
Raza created an impact right away getting the breakthrough dismissing Brandon
King. In the next over, Khary Pierre got rid of Hemraj making life tough for
Amazon Warriors.
Pierre struck again by dismissing the dangerous Nicolas
Pooran to leave Warriors struggling at 12 for 3. The experienced Ross Taylor
and Shimron Hetymer steadied the innings putting pressure on Knight Riders
bowlers. At the end of six overs, Guyana Amazon Warriors posted 39 for 3.
With Ross Taylor looking good, Tim Seifert produced a
brilliant run-out to break the partnership. Knight Riders bowlers kept picking
wickets at regular intervals. Keemo Paul showed some hitting skills by
remaining not out on 28 off 26 balls. It was a great bowling effort by Knight
Riders to restrict Guyana to just 112 for 7 in 20 overs.
Chasing 113 runs to win, Lendl Simmons and Webster got off
to a steady start with positive stroke play. Imran Tahir got the breakthrough
dismissing Simmons and then Colin Munro for 0. At the end of six overs, Knight
Riders scored 34 for 2.
Chris Green got the wicket of Webster to leave Knight Riders
in trouble at 52 for 3. Darren Bravo showed his experience while Seifert played
with positive intent taking Warriors bowlers. Both added unbeaten 63 runs for
the 4th wicket to help Knight Riders register a comfortable 7 wicket
win with 10 balls to spare.
Knight Riders have performed brilliantly so far winning all
five matches. Kieron Pollard led side defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in the
opening match of the tournament played on 18th August.
For his 3 for 18 in his 4 overs, Khary Pierre was awarded
the man of the match. The teams now again shift to Brian Lara Cricket Academy Ground,
Trinidad from 29th August.
Trinbago Knight Riders 115 for 3 in 18.2 overs ( Tim Seifert
39*, Webster 27, Imran Tahir 2/25) beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 112 for 7 in 20
overs ( Keemo Paul 28*, Ross Taylor 26, Khary Pierre 3/18) by 7 wickets.
