England versus Pakistan 3rd Test 5th Day: 3rd Test match ends in a draw, England win Test series 1-0
It was another rain-curtailed day as Babar Azam positive
knock ensured that Pakistan drew the 3rd Test match played at Ageas
Bowl, Southampton on Tuesday. The main highlight of the day was James Anderson became
the first fast bowler to take 600 wickets in Test matches. With this drawn
match, both teams earned 13 points each in the ICC Test Championship.
The match began after a long rain break. Jofra Archer and
James Anderson started the proceedings for England. Archer could not provide
anything. It was a historic moment as veteran Anderson got record 600th
wicket in Test matches getting rid of Azhar Ali with a simple catch at slips by
Joe Root.
Asad Shafiq came to the crease and looked shaky against
James Anderson. Babar Azam survived a chance as the shot went between slips and
wicketkeeper against Dom Bess. Stuart Broad was bought into the attack. England
captain Joe Root decided to bring himself on. Babar and Asad Shafiq played with
positive intent. Before the stroke of 2nd new ball, Joe Root struck
to dismiss Asad with a good low catch by the substitute Bracey at short leg.
Babar and Asad put on 63 runs for the 4th wicket.
The England captain Joe Root decided to take the 2nd
new ball immediately for a last-ditch effort. Babar Azam looked confident with his
stroke play and completed his fifty off 80 balls. Root decided to call off the
game as there was no result possible. Pakistan ended the final at 187 for 4
with Babar Azam remaining not out on 63 while Fawad Alam did not open his
account.
Pakistan would be guilty of playing loose cricket in the 2nd
innings of 1st Test match played at Old Trafford, Manchester. Also,
their bowling was not up to the mark after reducing England at 117 for 5
setting a target of 277 runs to win.
For his career-best 267 runs, Zak Crawley was named the man
of the match for England while Mohammad Rizwan for his 2 half-centuries impressed
with his batting. For his consistent performances, Jos Buttler was awarded the
man of the series award.
