IPL Match 11: Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Delhi Capitals to register their first win
Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a much-improved performance to
defeat Delhi Capitals comfortably in the 11th Match of IPL played at
Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided
to field first. It was a cautious start by David Warner and Jonny Bairstow
against disciplined bowling by Nortje and Ishant Sharma. Bairstow survived an
LBW shout as the umpire decided to review the decision, it was retained due to the umpire’s call. Warner showed his class against Nortje and put some pressure on
Delhi Capitals bowlers. At the end of six overs, SRH openers scored 38 for 0.
Bairstow took the attack to Amit Mishra in his first over.
At the end of the first timeout, SRH scored 52 for 0. After the break, it was a
good display of batting by both SRH openers. Amit Mishra struck for Delhi
Capitals as the umpire gave not out and Iyer decided to review the decision, it
was overturned as it hit the gloves. SRH openers put on 77 runs for the opening
laying a strong foundation for a decent total.
Amit Mishra got his 2nd wicket of the innings
dismissing Manish Pandey trying to sweep the shot hitting the top edge and going
into the hands of Kagiso Rabada at deep mid-wicket. Kane Williamson playing his
first match of this season looked in fluent touch right from word go. He
rotated the strike and hit boundaries. At the end of the second timeout, SRH made
128 for 2.
After the timeout, Jonny Bairstow completed his fifty off 44
balls. Kagiso Rabada bowled brilliantly in the last 2 overs not giving any
boundaries. Rabada got the big wicket of Bairstow giving a simple catch to
Nortje at mid-off. Bairstow and Williamson added 52 runs for the 3rd
wicket. Abdul Samad playing his first IPL match hit a quickfire 12 off 7 balls.
Williamson innings came to end as he tried to whip the shot but gave a simple
catch to Patel at the boundary. Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 162 for 4 at the end
of 20 overs.
Chasing 163 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for Delhi
Capitals as Prithivi Shaw was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with a lovely
delivery. Shikhar Dhawan and Iyer struggled against the SRH bowlers who bowled
tight lines and lengths. At the end of six overs, Delhi Capitals scored 34 for
1.
Rashid Khan immediately struck to dismiss Iyer who tried to
hit a big shot giving a simple catch to Abdul Samad. Dhawan and Iyer added 40
runs for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the first timeout, Delhi Capitals
scored 48 for 2.
After the timeout, Dhawan could not time the ball and struggled
against Rashid. Rashid got the big wicket of Dhawan via a review. The umpire
gave it not out, it was overturned as it hit the edge to leave Delhi Capitals
in trouble.
T Natarajan bowled brilliant yorkers and did not allow Pant
and Hetymer to score runs easily. Hetymer and Pant took advantage of Khaleel
Ahmed over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the big wicket of Hetymer who took an easy
catch. Hetymer and Pant added 42 runs for the 4th wicket. With that,
the 2nd timeout was called.
Rashid Khan got the big wicket of Pant trying to sweep but
could not find the connection giving a simple catch to Garg at deep square leg.
It was a superb bowling effort by SRH bowlers who nailed the yorkers
brilliantly. Natarajan produced sensational yorker to dismiss Stoinis ending
Delhi Capitals hopes of winning.
Kagiso Rabada hit some lovely shots but Delhi Capitals fell
short of the target easily. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match comfortably by 15
runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad 162 for 4 in 20 overs ( Bairstow 53,
Williamson 41, Rabada 2/21, Mishra 2/35) beat Delhi Capitals 147 for 7 in 20 overs
( Dhawan 34, Pant 28, Rashid Khan 3/14, Kumar 2/25) by 15 runs.
For his superb figures of 3 for 14 in his 4 overs, Rashid
Khan was named the man of the match award.
