IPL Match 3: Royal Challengers Bangalore starts the tournament with an easy win
Royal Challengers Bangalore started the 2020 edition of the IPL
with a convincing win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 3rd match
played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Monday.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner won the toss and
decided to field first. Devdutt Paddikal and Aaron Finch started cautiously in
the first over against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Paddikal looked impressive with his
stroke play putting pressure on SRH bowlers. Paddikal smashed T Natarajan for
three boundaries in the 4th over. Mitchell Marsh was bought into the
attack and had to hobble off due to an injury.
His opening Aaron Finch struggled to time the ball but hit a
six off Vijay Shankar’s bowling from a free hit. At the end of six overs, Royal
Challengers Bangalore made 53 for 0. After the power play over, Rashid Khan was
bought into the attack but Paddikal and Finch played with intent. Royal
Challengers Bangalore scored 75 for 0 at end of the first strategic timeout.
Paddikal reached his fifty with a misjudged catch by Rashid
Khan off 36 balls. On the other hand, Aaron Finch looked in decent touch after the initial struggle. The youngster looked edgy and was bowled by Vijay Shankar.
RCB openers added 90 runs in 11 overs. In the next over, Aaron Finch trying to
sweep got out of Abhishek Sharma bowling.
The experienced duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers kept
on rotating the strike by taking singles and doubles. It was a good comeback by
SRH bowlers with good field placement. Kohli was caught at deep midwicket by
Rashid Khan. Shivam Dube was promoted but struggled for timing.
De Villers looked in great touch and completed his fifty off
29 balls. He was run out trying to take the second run for a superb knock.
Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 163 for 5 at end of 20 overs.
Chasing 164 runs to win, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow
looked in great touch with positive stroke play. RCB got an early breakthrough
as a forceful shot by Bairstow hit the hands of Umesh Yadav’s hand and making
David Warner run-out backing up. Kohli bought Navdeep Saini into the attack in
4th over.
Manish Pandey at number 3 looked in cracking touch and took
the attack to RCB bowlers. Umesh Yadav was wayward with his bowling. At the end
of six overs, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 48 for 1.
After the power play overs, Yuzvendra Chahal was bought into
the attack. At the end of the first strategic timeout taken, SRH was well placed
at 72 for 1. Bairstow was dropped twice once by Aaron Finch and then by Dale
Steyn. Chahal produced the breakthrough to get rid of Manish Pandey with a simple
catch to Navdeep Saini at long-off. Pandey and Bairstow added 71 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Jonny Bairstow looked composed with his stroke play and
reached his fifty off 37 balls. Bairstow was dropped the third time as Paddikal dropped a tough chance. Needed a wicket, Yuzvendra Chahal got the
important breakthrough getting Bairstow. After the timeout, Chahal got
dismissed Vijay Shankar with a beauty.
Priyam Garg tried to scoop but went hit the helmet going
onto the stumps. Abhishek Sharma and Rashid Khan were involved in a horrifying incident
resulting in a run-out of Sharma. Navdeep Saini got wickets of Bhuvneshwar
Kumar and Rashid Khan to put Hyderabad under pressure.
Mitchell Marsh coming into the bat after an injury struggled
and was by Kohli at long-on. With 17 runs required off the final over, Dale Steyn
dismissed Sandeep Sharma to help Royal Challengers Bangalore win the match by
10 runs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 163 for 5 in 20 overs ( Devdutt
Paddikal 56, AB de Villiers 51, T Natarajan 1/34) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 153
in 19.4 overs ( Jonny Bairstow 61, Manish Pandey 34, Yuzvendra Chahal 3/18) by
10 runs.
For his match-winning spell of 3 for 18 in 4 overs,
Yuzvendra Chahal was named the man of the match award. CSK will take on RR at
Sharjah Cricket Ground tomorrow.
