BBL 10: Alex Carey smashes first century of the tournament
After being released by Delhi Capitals in the mini-auction
before IPL 2021, Alex Carey made a brilliant century against Brisbane Heats
played at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Thursday.
Adelaide Strikers captain Travis Head won the toss and
decided to bat first. Alex Carey came to open the innings with Jake Weatherald
and provided a flying start putting pressure on the Brisbane Heats bowlers. At
the end of the first four overs, Strikers made 43 for the loss of no wickets. Weatherald
and Carey played with intent making life tough for the opposition. Labuschagne struck
for Brisbane Heats getting rid of Weatherald with a quickfire 36 off 18 balls. Strikers
openers put on 66 runs in 6 overs.
Carey played with intent and kept the scoreboard ticking
reaching his fifty off 38 balls. Travis Head and Phil Salt also provided good
support to Carey who made the batting look easy. Head made 25 off 19 balls
while Salt scored a quickfire 26 off 17 balls. Carey showed his class and
completed his century off 60 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 101 off 62
balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes that helped Adelaide Strikers post a massive
total of 197 for 5.
In reply to 198 runs to win, Brisbane Heats were never in
the hunt as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Marnus Labuschagne and
X-Factor Max Bryant made the top scorer. Adelaide Strikers bowled out Brisbane
Heats for 115 in 17.3 overs to register an emphatic 82 runs win. For his superb
knock of 101, Alex Carey was named the man of the match award.
Strikers moved up to the 4th spot in the table
with 4 points including Bash Point. This was the first century by a batsman in
BBL 10 season.
