IPL 2021: Newly appointed captain for Delhi Capitals

After a successful season against Australia away and England at home, the explosive left-handed Rishabh Pant has been appointed the captain for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 starting from 9th April.

Shreyas Iyer who injured his shoulder while fielding during the 1st ODI against England at Pune went off the field and was ruled of the entire series. After that, Iyer’s injury was so serious that he needed lots of time to recover and thus was ruled of the IPL 2021.

Pant has been in sensational form for the past 5 months for Team India. After not featuring in ODI, T20I series, and one Test match against Australia, he was included for the rest of the series. Chasing a massive target of 407 runs in the 4th innings at Sydney, Pant played a brilliant knock getting out for 97 and put on 148 runs stand for the 4th wicket with Pujara. His knock helped lay down fear of a win but after being dismissed in the 2nd session, Ashwin and Vihari played the whole last session to help India escape a memorable draw.

Chasing down 329 runs on the final day of 4th Test match at Brisbane, Pant started cautiously before taking the attack on Australia bowlers. He hit the winning runs to remain not out 91 helping Team India register a 3 wicket win and 2-1 series win over a strong Australian bowling line-up.

He continued his remarkable form in the home Test series against England. The Indian team looked in deep trouble with 73 for 4, Pant took the attack to Leach and scored a counterattacking of 91 runs.

Pant made another significant contribution in the first innings of the 2nd Test at Chennai. With India at 146 for 6, Pant showed his maturity before taking on the England bowlers to score 101. He was awarded the man of the match award. The explosive batsman Pant played knocks of 77 and 78 runs in the ODI series against England.

Under the captaincy of Iyer, Delhi Capitals reached their maiden IPL finals last year. He became the youngest captain to feature in IPL 2021. In the absence of Iyer, Pant would be looking to lead Delhi Capitals and showcase his explosive batting skills.
