Zimbabwe versus Pakistan 2nd T20I: Zimbabwe beat Pakistan to register their first win in T20Is
Thanks to a superb bowling effort, Zimbabwe stunned Pakistan
in the 2nd T20I match played at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on
Friday.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to
field first. The stand-in captain Brendon Taylor and Kamkukne started off
cautiously. Danish Aziz missed a golden chance to run out. Brendon Taylor's
innings came to an end taking the top edge as Hafeez took a simple catch.
Kamukhahwe looked impressive with his stroke play. At the end of the first six
overs, Zimbabwe ended at 25 for 1.
The Zimbabwe batsmen struggled to time the ball with disciplined
bowling by Pakistan. Marumani and Tinashe hit some lovely boundaries. After a
decent opening spell, Arshad Iqbal got his debut T20I wicket dismissing
Marumani caught by Rizwan. The Pakistani bowlers kept on picking wickets at
regular intervals to leave Zimbabwe in tatters at 83 for 5. Muskanda and Chakabva
scored 17 runs off Danish Aziz in the 16th over. Hasnain produced a
superb yorker to get rid of Muskanda ending a useful 25 runs partnership for
the 6th wicket. Haris Rauf and Hasnain did not allow Zimbabwe to
score runs freely restricting them to a modest total of 118 for 9.
Chasing 119 runs to win, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam struggled
to time the ball with some tight bowling by the Zimbabwe opening bowlers.
Jongwe dismissed inform Rizwan providing an easy catch to Musakanda. Babar Azam
and Fakhar Zaman looked ordinary with their batting not able to take singles.
At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan made 26 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Zimbabwe continued to strangle
with tight bowling. Ryan Burl got the breakthrough for the hosts as Fakhar tried to hit a big shot giving an easy catch to Musakanda. Babar Azam was not able to
time the ball hitting occasional boundaries. Burl struck again getting off the experienced
Hafeez.
Babar looked out of sorts with his batting along with Danish
Aziz. Jongwe struck again to get rid of big wicket Babar providing an easy
catch to Madhevere giving an opening to Zimbabwe. Asif Ali's struggle continued being
dismissed for 1. Aziz hit a boundary after 8 overs giving some hopes for
Pakistan. Aziz innings came to end as a superb throw by Muskanda and run out by
Chakbva. Haris Rauf hit a massive six.
With 20 runs required off the final over, Jongwe dismissed
Rauf and Arshad Iqbal to help Zimbabwe register an amazing 19 runs win.
Zimbabwe 118 for 9 in 20 overs ( Tinashe 34, Hasnain 2/19,
Aziz 2/29) beat Pakistan 99 in 19.5 overs ( Babar 41, Aziz 22, Jongwe 4/18) by
19 runs.
This was Zimbabwe’ first win over Pakistan in T20Is over the
16th attempt. For his 4 for 18 in 3.5 overs, Jongwe was awarded the
man of the match.
Zimbabwe leveled the 3 matches T20I series at 1-1. The third
and decider T20I will be played on 25th April.
