PSL 2021: Rashid Khan all-round performance

The Afghanistan star player Rashid Khan showed all-round abilities for Lahore Qalandars against Islamabad United in the opening match of the 2nd leg played at the Sheikh Abu Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Lahore Qalandars captain Sohail Akhtar won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for Qalandars as James Faulkner grabbed wickets of Colin Munro, Rohail Nazir, and United captain Shahbad Khan to leave United in trouble. Rashid Khan bowled brilliantly giving away just 9 runs in his 4 overs and took the wicket of Hussain Talat. He finished the allocated 4 overs by the 16th over.

Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Wasim provided some quick runs in the last 3 overs to help Islamabad United post 143 for 9 in 20 overs. It was a good bowling effort by Qalandars bowlers as Faulkner took 3 wickets, Daniyal and Haris Rauf took 2 wickets while Shaheen Shah Afridi 1 for 37.

Chasing down 144 runs to win, Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar started off steadily before Faheem Ashraf dismissed Zaman cheaply. Qalandars captain Akhtar looked in fluent touch putting pressure on United bowlers. After the captain Akhtar fell for a well 40 off 30 balls, Qalandars batsmen struggled with their stroke play on a tough pitch to bat on.

The match went right down the wire with 16 runs required to win in the last over. United captain Khan gave the responsibility to Hussain Talat. Rashid Khan showed his class by hitting 3 successive boundaries to make the equation in favor of Qalandars. Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Wasim, Fawad Ahmed had completed a quota of 4 overs.

Shahdab Khan was left his own over and Hussain Talat. Khan decided to go with the inexperience that costed United the match. Rashid Khan blasted away 15 runs off 5 balls and helped Qalandars to register 5 wickets win. For his all-round performance with 1 for 9 in 4 overs and 15 off 5 balls, Rashid Khan was awarded the man of the match.

Lahore Qalandars 144 for 5 in 20 overs ( Sohail Akhtar 40, Hafeez 29, Hasan Ali 2/27) beat Islamabad United 143 for 9 in 20 overs ( Faheem Ashraf 27, Khawaja 18, Faulkner 3/32, Rauf 2/28) by 5 wickets.
