Tokyo Olympics 2020: PV Sindhu loses in the semi-finals

 India’s ace badminton shuttler PV Sindhu lost her semi-finals to World number 1 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei easily played at Mushino Sports Plaza, Tokyo on Saturday.

Both players started on even taking 2 early points. After the initial battle, PV Sindhu looked in decent touch and put Tai Tzu Ying under pressure taking points in succession. The Indian managed to attack World number 1. At the mid-game interval, PV Sindhu took an 11-7 lead. After the break, Tai Tzu Ying fought back strongly with smashes and netplay leveling the scores at 11-11. Both players fought for each point and made life tough for each other. The match flowed from one corner to another till 18-18.

PV Sindhu committed few unforced errors which Tai took advantage of. Tai took 3 points in succession to take the first game easily at 21-18.

The second game also started on an even keel with both players taking alternate points till 4-4. Tai upped her strokes and put Sindhu under pressure. It was a great display of badminton by the World number 1 who looked in complete control. At the mid-game interval, Tai had an 11-7 lead. After the break, Sindhu was not able to match the strokes of World number 1. Tai Tzu Ying was simply unstoppable and did not allow Sindhu to enter the game. Tai showed her class and won the second game easily at 21-12.

Sindhu did not play her attacking game as Tai strokes was simply superb. This was her biggest challenge in the tournament. After winning all 4 matches in straight sets, Sindhu showed her class, but Tai was too good.

Sindhu will now have a chance to get her second successive medal in the Olympics. She will now take on He Bingjao of China in the bronze medal match.
