Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu enters the semi-finals with a thrilling win

 Indian ace shuttler produced a sensational display as she defeated Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals played at Mushino Sports Forest Plaza, Tokyo on Thursday.

The match started on an even term as Yamaguchi produced some brilliant smashes and put the Indian under pressure. Sindhu came back strongly with some lovely smashes and great netplay. She returned to the game to level the scores. The Indian shuttler put Yamaguchi under so much pressure hitting smashes making life tough for the Japanese. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu led 11-7.

After the mid-game interval, both players relied on rallies. Sindhu was simply sensational with her strokes especially smashes and drop shots. The Indian did not stop and won the first game easily at 21-13.

The second saw both players starting on even keel till 3-3. After the initial struggle, Sindhu showed her domination and kept the pressure on Japanese powerhouse. Both players fought on long rallies and made life tough for each other. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu had a commanding 11-6 lead. After the break, both players showed their strength and stamina depending on long rallies. The Indian committed few unforced errors. From 9-14 down, Yamaguchi fought back strongly to take points in succession and equaled the score at 16-16.

Sindhu looked tired with long rallies. She produced some brilliant smashes putting Yamaguchi under pressure. The match went down the wire and Yamaguchi had one game point. Sindhu showed her class and leveled the scores at 20-20. Rio Olympic silver medallists produced two brilliant smashes to win the second game in a thrilling encounter at 22-20 to move into the semi-finals.

It was an amazing performance by Sindhu who looked in great touch. Despite few errors in the 2nd game, the Indian looked in great shape and would be looking to change her color from Rio Olympics. She will now face World number 1 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei
