India versus England 1st Day 4th Day: Bumrah’s magical spell puts India in great position
Thanks to a sensational spell by Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian Cricket Team ended the 4th day of 1st Test match in great position played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday.
Starting on the overnight score of 25 for 0, Rory Burns and
Dom Sibley started off cautiously against Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Burns put
bad balls away for runs putting some pressure on Indian bowlers. Siraj produced
a peach to dismiss Burns providing a simple catch to Pant. England openers added
37 runs for the opening wicket. India struck for the 2nd time as
Bumrah got rid of Zak Crawley with another beauty to leave England in trouble.
The England captain Joe Root came to the crease and looked
positive right from word go putting the bad balls away for boundaries. On other
hand, Dom Sibley remained solid with his solid defense. Root put enough
pressure on Indian bowlers hitting runs and reached fifty off just 68 balls. Sibley
and Root survived few anxious moments via review but held firm. England ended
the first session at 119 for 2.
Root and Sibley began the second session on a decent note
taking singles keeping the scoreboard ticking. Bumrah broke through dismissing
Sibley with good delivery taking inside edge as Pant took a diving catch. Sibley and Root added 89 runs
for the 3rd wicket. Jonny Bairstow played aggressively putting
pressure on wayward Indian bowling. The experienced duo of Bairstow and Root
made life tough for the visitors. Siraj did the job for India getting rid of
Bairstow providing a simple catch to Ravindra Jadeja. Bairstow and Root added 42
runs for the 4th wicket. Dan Lawrence joined in with captain Joe
Root and kept the scoreboard ticking with boundaries. Shardul Thakur produced a
sensational delivery getting the wicket of Lawrence. Lawrence and Root added 34
runs for the 5th wicket.
Jos Buttler played some lovely shots keeping the momentum
going for England. On the other hand, Root looked decent with his strokes. It
was an amazing session of Test cricket as England ended the 2nd
session at 235 for 5.
It was a perfect start for the visitors as Jos Buttler
misjudged and rattled onto the stumps. Root kept his composure reaching his
century off 154 balls. The Indian captain Kohli took 2nd new ball
immediately. Sam Curran looked in brilliant touch putting pressure on Indian
bowlers. Bumrah did the damage again dismissing well-set Root with a peach for
superb 108. Root and Curran added 37 runs for the 7th wicket. Bumrah
then trapped Sam Curran who pulled a shot straight to Siraj. Bumrah shattered
the stump of Broad to grab his 5th wicket.
Ollie Robinson some useful runs with boundaries before
slashing a shot to the third man Rahane giving Shami his first wicket. A superb
bowling effort helped India bowl out England for 303.
Chasing 209 runs to win, KL Rahul made an aggressive start
to the innings hitting boundaries and putting pressure on England bowlers. On
the other hand, Rohit Sharma remained steady. Stuart Broad struck in his first
ball of 2nd spell getting rid of KL Rahul with a beauty. KL Rahul
and Rohit Sharma added 34 runs for the first wicket.
The England captain Root decided to review the decision for
caught behind, but it stood it not out. Pujara survived few anxious moments
before hitting 2 boundaries off the last over from Stuart Broad. India ended
the 4th day at 52 for 1.
