India versus England 1st Test 3rd Day: KL Rahul and Jadeja knocks help India put in good position
Thanks to superb knocks by KL Rahul, Jadeja, and tailenders, the Indian team ended rain-curtailed 3rd day in a strong position played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Friday.
Starting on the overnight score of 125 for 4, Rishabh Pant
made his intentions clear by coming down the track and hitting Anderson for a
boundary, and then the rain arrived. After the stoppage, Pant survived few anxious
moments against Ollie Robinson going past the diving hand of Rory Burns and then
went over the wicketkeeper Buttler for a six. Robinson finally got the
breakthrough getting rid of Pant providing a simple catch to Bairstow. Pant and
KL Rahul added 33 runs for the 5th wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja looked composed and made the batting look
easy keeping the scoreboard along with KL Rahul. After the initial spell by
Anderson and Robinson, Root decided to bring Curran and Broad. Rahul and Jadeja
played according to the merit going past England's score. Both ensured that India
went into lunch break at 191 for 5.
Soon after the lunch break, Robinson got wickets off
successive deliveries to dismiss well-set KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur to leave
India in some trouble at 205 for 7. Ravindra Jadeja showed his class to reach
his fifty off 81 balls and was eventually to hit a big shot. Jadeja and KL Rahul
added 60 runs for the 6th wicket. After the fall of the 9th wicket,
Mohammad Siraj joined in the fun along with Jasprit Bumrah. Both hit boundaries
and kept the lead growing. Burmah’s cameo came to an end as he was caught by
Broad at fine leg. Bumrah and Siraj added 33 runs for the final wicket. Thanks
to a superb batting effort by the tail, India took a decent lead of 95 runs.
Robinson was the pick of bowlers for England with figures of 5 for 85 while
Anderson grabbed 4 wickets.
Dom Sibley and Rory Burns started off cautiously in the 2nd
innings against good, disciplined bowling by Bumrah and Siraj. England ended 2nd the session with scoreboard reading 11 for 0.
The England openers remained solid against good quality pace
bowling. Kohli decided to bring the first change as Mohammed Shami was bought
into the attack. Sibley and Burns survived few anxious moments with the scoreboard
reading at 25 for 0 before the rain arrived. The rain stopped and the umpire decided to
start play again but the rain decided to play spoilsport.
England 183 in 65.4 overs ( Joe Root 64, Bairstow 29, Bumrah
4/46, Shami 3/28) and 25 for 0 in 11.1 overs ( Burns 11*, Sibley 9*) trail India
