Natwest T20 Blast 2021: Afghanistan genius all-round effort
Afghanistan genius Rashid Khan provides another match-winning effort with both bat and ball during the 1st quarterfinals of Natwest T20 Blast 2021 played at Riverside Ground, Chester E- Street on Tuesday.
Yorkshire captain David Willey won the toss and decided to
bat first. The left-arm pace bowler Tymal Mills provided early breakthroughs
dismissing Adam Lyth and captain David Willey cheaply. Rashid Khan did the job
for Sussex Sharks by getting the wicket of Harry Brooks to leave Yorkshire in deep
trouble.
Kohler Cadmore and Gary Balance provided some stability putting
on 85 runs for the 4th wicket. Rashid Khan did not allow Yorkshire
batsmen to score runs easily. He finished with figures of 1 for 25 in 4 overs
at an economy of 6.20 runs per over. Cadmore and Balance scored half-centuries
each. Rashid Khan also took 2 catches along with a disciplined bowling effort. After
a disastrous start, Yorkshire posted 177 for 7 in 20 overs.
Chasing 178 runs to win, Philp Salt and Luke Wright started
off steadily with lovely shots putting pressure on Yorkshire bowling. Sussex
Sharks made 53 runs at the end of the first six overs.
Yorkshire bowlers made a strong comeback as Jordan Thompson got
the breakthrough dismissing Salt ending 72 runs opening partnership. Adil Rashid
produced a superb delivery to get rid of Luke Wright to put breaks on the
Sussex Sharks batting line-up.
The situation became tough for Sussex Sharks with the loss of
quick wickets. With 44 runs required off 4 overs, Rashid Khan came to the crease
and smashed Fisher for a six. Khan then produced a brilliant helicopter shot
going for six putting Yorkshire bowlers under pressure. Jordan Thompson
dismissed David Wiese in the same over to make the match interesting.
Rashid Khan took the attack to Yorkshire captain David
Willey in the 19th over hitting him for 3 boundaries helping Sussex Sharks
on course for a win. With 6 runs required off the last over, Chris Jordan and
Rashid Khan held their nerves as Jordan smacked a boundary to help Sussex
Sharks win the match by 5 wickets.
Rashid Khan showed his class with a quickfire cameo scoring 27
off 9 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to help Sussex Sharks qualify for the
semi-finals. For all-around efforts, Rashid was named the man of the match
award.
