Stats: Mohammed Siraj breaks Kapil Dev’s record
The Indian Cricket Team produced a remarkable performance to win the 2nd Test against England at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground, London on Monday.
Virat Kohli went with four fast bowlers including Shami, Bumrah,
Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj. Thanks to superb knocks by KL Rahul 129,
Rohit Sharma 83, valuable contributions by Jadeja helped India post 364 runs in
the first innings.
After the tea break on the 2nd day, Mohammed
Siraj rattled the England batting line up dismissing Dom Sibley and then
produced a peach to dismiss Haseeb Hameed. Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root played
brilliantly in the first session of the third day to put India on the backfoot.
Siraj got the breakthrough for India coming round the wicket-taking gloves of
Jonny Bairstow into hands of Virat Kohli to end 121 runs partnership for 4th
wicket. Joe Root remained solid and put Indian bowlers under pressure.
The things looked bleak at the tea break on day 3 with England
trailing by 50 runs. After picking quick wickets, Siraj produced another good
delivery to dismiss Ollie Robinson. Siraj ended with figures of 4 for 94 in 30
overs. Thanks to a brilliant effort by Indian pacers, India restricted England to
391 runs allowing the hosts lead by just 27 runs.
After a superb 100 runs partnership between Rahane and
Pujara, the Indian team lost 3 quick wickets with scoreboard reading 181 for 6
leading by 154 runs. Mohammed Shami and Bumrah stunned the England bowlers providing
unbeaten 89 runs for the 9th wicket to help India declare their
innings.
Bumrah and Shami rattled the England openers dismissing
Burns and Sibley without opening their account. Siraj looked in great rhythm
dismissing Moeen Ali and Sam Curran off successive deliveries to leave England shocked.
Siraj then took wickets of Buttler and James Anderson in the same over helping Team
India register 151 runs win taking 1-0 lead.
Siraj grabbed 9 for 126 runs which is the best figures by an
Indian bowler at Lords. He was making his debut at this stadium. Before this
match, Kapil Dev registered 8 for 168 runs during the 1982 series.
