IPL 2021 Match 32: Rajasthan Royals seal remarkable win

Rajasthan Royals came back strongly to seal a remarkable win over Punjab Kings in the 32nd match of IPL 2021 played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Tuesday.

Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field first. RR openers Jaiswal and Lewis played with intent right from the word go. Lewis created enough pressure on Ishan Porel hitting him for four boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking. Deepak Hooda was introduced into the attack as RR openers put him under pressure. Arshdeep Singh struck for PBKS dismissing dangerous Lewis with a low catch by Mayank Agarwal. Lewis and Jaiswal added 54 runs in 5.3 overs. At the end of the first six overs, Rajasthan Royals scored 57 for 1. With that, the first timeout was called.

After the timeout, a superb one-handed catch by KL Rahul ended the innings for Sanju Samson. Liam Livingstone came to the crease and looked confident with his strokes. Jaiswal put the pressure back on PBKS bowler's positive hits against Adil Rashid. Livingstone made life tough for PBKS with some lusty shots before a superb catch by Fabien Allen resulted in the big wicket. Livingstone played a quickfire cameo and added 48 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Mahipal Lomror looked in cracking touch right from word go hitting Adil Rashid for 2 sixes. Jaiswal’s innings came to an end with a good catch by Mayank Agarwal. Lomror took the attack to Deepak Hooda hitting for 24 runs including 2 sixes and 2 fours. At the end of the second timeout, RR scored 164 for 4.

It was a superb comeback by Punjab Kings bowlers especially by Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh. All Rajasthan Royals batsmen tried to clear the boundaries but was caught. Arshdeep got rid of Chetan Sakaryia and then clean bowled Karthik Tyagi off the final delivery. Thanks to decent knocks by Lewis, Jaiswal, Livingstone, and Lomror, Rajasthan Royals posted 185 in 20 overs. For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh grabbed 5 for 32, Shami 3 for 21, Porel and Brar 1 wicket each.

Chasing 186 runs to win, it was a cautious start by Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. Evin Lewis dropped chance at point to get rid of PBKS captain KL Rahul.  It was a disappointing fielding performance as KL Rahul was given reprieve two more times. After the drop chances, Rahul put pressure on Chetan Sakaryia with attacking strokes. At the end of the first six overs, Punjab Kings made 49 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.

After the field restrictions, Agarwal and Rahul upped the ante taking on RR bowlers especially against Chris Morris taking him for 25 runs to keep Punjab Kings ahead. Agarwal completed his fifty off 34 balls and kept on scoring runs easily. Chetan Sakaryia finally broke through getting rid of KL Rahul as Karthik Tyagi took a simple catch at short third man. Punjab Kings openers put on 120 runs.

Soon after, Rahul Tewaita dismissed Mayank Agarwal as Livingstone grabbed an easy catch to bring back RR into the game. Nicolas Pooran took the attack to Riyan Parag and kept the task easy for Punjab Kings. Aiden Markram joined in with Pooran hitting aggressive strokes. At the end of 2nd timeout, Punjab Kings scored 154 for 2.

Pooran and Markram kept on hitting boundaries at will making life tough for RR. With 4 runs required off the final over, Karthik Tyagi dismissed well-set Pooran and then Deepak Hooda. Tyagi held his nerves to bowl a stunning yorker to Fabien Allen helping Rajasthan Royals seal 2 runs win. Pooran and Markram added 57 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Rajasthan Royals 185 in 20 overs ( Jaiswal 49, Lomror 43, Arshdeep Singh 5/32, Shami 3/21) beat Punjab Kings 183 for 4 in 20 overs ( Mayank Agarwal 67, KL Rahul 49, Karthik Tyagi 2/29) by 2 runs.

For his brilliant figures of 2/29 in 4 overs, Karthik Tyagi was named the man of the match award. With this win, RR registered their fourth win of IPL 2021.
