IPL 2021 Match 35: CSK thrash RCB

 

Chennai Super Kings registered a thumping win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 35th match of IPL 2021 played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah on Friday.

CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. Kohli looked in sensational touch right from the word go putting pressure along with Devdutt Paddikal. RCB openers showed intent on hitting boundaries and keeping the scoreboard ticking. Kohli timed the ball brilliantly and returned to form with some positive strokes. At the end of the first six overs, RCB openers scored 55 for 0.

Paddikal and Kohli maintained the momentum for RCB. At the end of the first timeout, RCB scored 61 for 0. Paddikal took on Jadeja keeping pressure on CSK bowlers. Paddikal completed his fifty off 35 balls while Kohli reached half-century off 36 deliveries. Dwayne Bravo struck finally for CSK dismissing RCB captain Kohli as Jadeja took a simple catch at deep midwicket. Kohli and Paddikal added 111 runs laying a strong foundation for a massive total.

AB de Villiers struggled for timing against Shardul Thakur and other CSK bowlers. At the end of the 2nd timeout, RCB scored 131 for 1. Dwayne Bravo struck twice in one over getting wickets of de Villiers and Paddikal to stem the run flow.

CSK bowlers kept a tight leash on RCB batsmen not allowing them to score runs easily and kept picking wickets at regular intervals to restrict Kohli and Co for 156 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 157 runs to win, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis got the team off to a flying start hitting boundaries at will. Gaikwad looked in brilliant touch while du Plessis made the batting look easy. At the end of the first six overs, CSK scored 59 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.

Yuzvendra Chahal troubled Faf du Plessis and Gaikwad with beauties. Chahal finally struck for RCB dismissing Gaikwad with a stunning catch by Kohli to end 71 runs opening partnership. Soon after, Maxwell got rid of du Plessis as Saini took a lovely catch at short fine leg.

Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu kept the momentum going on for CSK with some cracking shots off Hasaranga. Harshal Patel dismissed Moeen Ali with a slower delivery as Kohli took a simple catch. Moeen and Rayudu added 47 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Suresh Raina struggled initially against Chahal while Rayudu looked at ease. At the end of the 2nd timeout, CSK posted 125 for 3. Rayudu smacked brilliant boundaries before being caught by Ab de Villiers.

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni kept calm helping CSK register a commanding 6 wicket win with 11 balls to spare.

CSK 157 for 4 in 18.1 overs ( Gaikwad 38, Rayudu 32, Harshal Patel 2/25) beat RCB 156 for 6 in 20 overs ( Paddikal 70, Kohli 53, Dwayne Bravo 3/24) by 6 wickets.

For his figures of 3 for 24 in 4 overs, Dwayne Bravo was awarded the man of the match. CSK moves up to the top of the points table with 7 wins.
