IPL 2021 Match 40: Jason Roy and Williamson leads SRH to an easy win over RR

 

Thanks to great knocks by Jason Roy and Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered dominating win over Rajasthan Royals in the 40th match of IPL 2021 played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Monday.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for RR as Evin Lewis was dismissed cheaply after hitting one boundary by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Jaiswal and Samson steadied the ship with aggressive strokes putting pressure on SRH bowlers especially on Siddarth Kaul. Both looked in great touch giving momentum for RR. At the end of the first six overs, RR scored 49 for 1.

Samson and Jaiswal kept the momentum for RR to end the first timeout at 57 for 1. After the timeout, both RR batsmen continued the aggression. Sandeep Sharma produced the breakthrough dismissing Jaiswal taking the inside edge onto stumps. Jaiswal and Samson added 56 runs for the 2nd wicket. Liam Livingstone's poor run continued with a simple catch to Samad at fine leg to leave RR in some trouble.

Samson upped the ante for RR putting pressure on SRH bowlers. At the end of the 2nd timeout, RR scored 102 for 3. Samson showed his class and reached his fifty off 40 balls. He then blasted Siddarth Kaul for 20 runs in an over to keep the momentum going for RR. Mahipal Lomror gave the strike to Samson.

SRH bowlers made a strong comeback in the last 3 overs. Siddarth Kaul dismissed well-set Sanju Samson and then Riyan Parag to restrict RR for 164 for 5. Samson and Lomror added 84 runs for the 4th wicket.

Chasing 165 runs to win, it was an aggressive start by Jason Roy who replaced David Warner in today’s match. Saha smashed the RR bowlers and put them under immense pressure. Lomror got the breakthrough for RR dismissing Saha stumped by Samson. Saha and Roy added 57 runs in quick time. Saha and Roy added 57 runs in just 5.1 overs. At the end of the first six overs, SRH raced away to 63 for 1. With that, the first timeout was called.

After the timeout, Williamson joined in and played with intent Roy. Roy smashed Tewaita for runs keeping the momentum for SRH. Both experienced batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking making life tough for the opposition. Roy looked in brilliant touch to reach fifty off 36 balls. Sakaryia got rid of Roy with a tickle edge to Samson. Roy and Williamson added 57 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Soon after, Priyam Garg could not open his account providing an easy return catch to Rahman giving RR a glimmer of hope. Williamson and Abishek Sharma steadied the ship somewhat as SRH went into the second timeout with scoreboard reading 139 for 3.

After the timeout, Abishek Sharma and Williamson hit lusty blows to ease the pressure off. Williamson completed his fifty off 41 balls hitting the winning runs. SRH won the match by 7 wickets with 9 balls to spare.

SRH 167 for 3 in 18.3 overs (Jason Roy 60, Williamson 51*, Rahman 1/32) beat RR 164 for 5 in 20 overs ( Sanju Samson 82, Jaiswal 36, Siddarth Kaul 2/36) by 7 wickets.

SRH registered their 2nd win of IPL 2021. For his 60 off 42 deliveries, Jason Roy was named the man of the match award.
