ICC World T20 Super 12 Group 1: Bowlers lead England to a resounding win
The England Cricket Team started their World Cup journey on a winning note as they crushed defending Champions West Indies in the 2nd match of Super 12 stage played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Saturday.
England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to
field first. Chris Woakes got the early breakthrough for England dismissing
Lewis with a good catch by Moeen Ali. It was a disciplined bowling effort as
their bowlers kept on asking questions with disciplined lines and lengths.
Moeen Ali got the wicket of Lendl Simmons to leave West Indies in some trouble.
Shimron Hetymer and Chris Gayle steadied the ship for defending Champions somewhat
before Ali struck again to dismiss Hetymer.
Before the stroke of the first six overs, Tymal Mills dismissed
Chris Gayle to leave West Indies in massive trouble at 31 for 4. The England bowlers
kept on picking wickets at regular intervals making life tough for the opponent
batters. There was no resistance by the West Indies middle order as all England
bowlers showed great discipline. Adil Rashid took wickets of Andre Russell,
Obed McCoy, and Ravi Rampaul to skittle out West Indies for 55 runs in just
14.3 overs.
Chasing a paltry total of 56 runs to win, Jason Roy and Jonny
Bairstow began off with aggressive intent putting West Indies bowlers under pressure.
Rampaul struck for West Indies getting rid of the wicket of Roy as Gayle took an
easy catch. Hosein took a simple return catch to dismiss Bairstow. Moeen Ali
was run out in a mix-up. At the end of the first six overs, England made 39 for
3.
A brilliant catch by Hosein ended the innings for Liam
Livingstone. Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan completed the formalities helping
England register a thumping 6 wicket win with 70 balls to spare.
England 56 for 4 in 8.2 overs ( Jos Buttler 24*, Akeal
Hossain 2/24) beat West Indies 55 in 14.2 overs ( Gayle 13, Rashid 4/2, Ali
2/17) by six wickets.
For his figures of 2 for 17 in 4 overs, Moeen Ali was named
