ICC World T20 Super 12 Stage Group 1: Ruthless England hammers Australia
The England Cricket Team produced a ruthless performance as they defeated Australia easily played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Saturday.
England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to
field first. The decision paid off for Eoin Morgan as Chris Woakes bowled a
peach getting the wicket of Warner. Chris Jordan dismissed Steve Smith with a simple catch to Woakes leaving Australia in trouble. Woakes got rid of
dangerous Maxwell. Jordan and Woakes did not allow the Aussies batters to score
runs easily. At the end of the first six overs, Australia looked in trouble at
21 for 3.
Adil Rashid struck immediately in his first over getting rid
of Marcus Stoinis to leave Australia struggling big time. Matthew Wade and
Australian captain Finch steadied the ship putting pressure on England bowlers.
Livingstone got rid of Wade caught by Roy. Wade and Finch added 30 runs for the
5th wicket.
Aston Agar joined in with captain Finch putting pressure
back on England bowlers. Agar kept the pressure on hitting boundaries. Mills got
the wicket of Agar caught by Livingstone. Agar and Finch added 47 runs for the
6th wicket. Despite Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc scoring cameos,
England bowlers kept a tight leash dismissing Australia for 125.
In reply to 126 runs to win, it was a flying start by Jos
Buttler and Jason Roy taking on the Australian pacers including Starc and Cummins.
Roy and Buttler made life tough for the opposition with big shots. At the end of
the first six overs, England raced to 66 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Zampa struck getting the
wicket of Roy. Roy and Buttler added 66 runs laying a strong foundation for England
to win. Buttler was in sublime touch putting the Aussies bowlers under immense
pressure. Agar dismissed Dawid Malan caught by Matthew Wade.
Buttler kept the momentum on for England reaching his fifty
off 25 balls. Jonny Bairstow joined in the fun hitting sixes at will. Buttler
and Bairstow ensured that England chase down this target with ease.
England 126 for 2 in 11.4 overs ( Buttler 71*, Agar 1/15)
beat Australia 125 in 20 overs ( Finch 44, Agar 20, Chris Jordan 3/17, Woakes
2/23) by 8 wickets.
For his figures of 3 for 17 in 4 overs, Chris Jordan was
awarded the man of the match.
