India Under 19 versus Bangladesh Under 19 quarterfinals: Dominate India cruise to the semi-finals
The Indian Under 19 continued their impressive form as they defeated Bangladesh easily in the final quarterfinals played at Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua, and Barbuda on Saturday.
Indian captain Yash Dhull won the toss and decided to field
first. Hangekar did not begin well with some wayward deliveries. The left-arm
pacer Ravi Kumar produced a stunning delivery to get the breakthrough for India
dismissing Mahifjul Islam. Iftakher Hossain and Nabil struggled against Ravi
Kumar as Hangekar could not control his line conceding wide balls. Ravi Kumar
struck for the 2nd time dismissing Hossain caught by Kaushal. Kumar
dismissed Nabil to leave Bangladesh in big trouble at 14 for 3.
Ariful Islam and Aich Mollah steadied the ship as Bangladesh
ended the first 10 overs at 20 for 3. The Indian bowlers did not allow defending
Champions to score runs easily. Ostwal struck twice in one over getting wickets
of Ariful and Fahim to put Bangladesh in serious trouble at 37 for 5. Tambe
dismissed captain Rakibul Hasan cheaply and then run-out of Mollah made life
miserable. SM Mehrab and Ashiqur Zaman steadied the ship with some hitting by
Mehrab. Zaman gave good support to Mehrab.
The part off-spinner Raghuvanshi ended the partnership
dismissing Mehrab stumped by Bana. Mehrab and Zaman added 50 runs for the 8th
wicket. In the same over, a superb direct hit from Siddarth Yadav ended in a run-out of Zaman. Hangekar struck immediately dismissing Sakib to bowl out
Bangladesh for 111 in 37.1 overs.
Chasing a modest total of 112 runs to win, it was not an ideal
start as they lost the wicket of Harnoor Singh without opening his account. The
Bangladesh opening bowlers kept it tight not allowing Indian batters to score
runs easily. Raghuvanshi showed intent hitting the bad deliveries away for boundaries
while his partnership Shaikh Rasheed gave good support to him. At the end of the first 10 overs, India Under 19 scored 28 for 1.
After the first drinks break, Raghuvanshi and Rasheed took
the attack on Bangladeshi bowlers hitting boundaries to keep India on course
for a win. Raghuvanshi's brilliant innings ended giving a simple catch to Nabil.
Raghuvanshi and Rasheed added 70 runs for the 2nd wicket. Ripon
Mondal got wickets of Shaik Rasheed, Siddarth Yadav, Raj Bawa in quick
succession. The Indian captain Yash Dhull and Kaushal Tambe did the job
perfectly as Indian Under 19 registered emphatic 5 wickets win. Tambe hit
winning runs with a six.
India Under 19 117 for 5 in 30.5 overs (Raghuvanshi 44,
Shaik Rasheed 26, Ripon Mondal 4/31) beat Bangladesh Under 19 111 in 37.1 overs
( Meherob 30, Mollah 17, Ravi Kumar 3/14) by 5 wickets.
For his 3 for 14 in 7 overs, Ravi Kumar was named the player of the match. India will take on Australia in the 2nd semi-finals to be played at the same ground on 2nd February.
