ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 Match 24: England women thrash Pakistan
The England Women’s Cricket Team produced a dominating display to defeat Pakistan in a one-sided affair played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Thursday.
England captain Heather Knight won the toss and decided to
field first. It was an ideal start for the defending Champions as Katherine
Brunt dismissed Nahida Khan off the very first delivery with beauty providing a simple catch to Heather Knight. The pitch was suitable for fast bowlers making
life tough for the Pakistani batters. Bismah Mahroof could not reach her crease
while trying to take the second run. At the end of the first 10 overs, Pakistan
women made just 28 for 2.
After the field restrictions, the England bowlers kept it
tight not allowing the Pakistani batters to score runs easily. Sidra Ameen
looked decent enough while Omaima Sohail also showed some intent before a
direct by Tammy Beaumont resulted in the run-out of Sohail. Nida Dar struggled
to rotate the strike against disciplined England bowling. Katherine Brunt
eventually got rid of Dar to leave Pakistan in big trouble.
Katherine Brunt produced a beauty to dismiss well-set Sidra
Ameen. Heather Knight dismissed Aliya Riaz caught by Shurbsole at short-fine
leg leaving Pakistan in tatters. Sidra Nawaz provided some resistance but was
eventually dismissed. Ecclestone did a superb job finishing the tail to bowl
out Pakistan for a paltry total of 107. The England bowlers never allowed the
Pakistani batters to score runs easily on a tough batting pitch.
In reply, Diana Baig produced a stunning delivery to dismiss
Tammy Beaumont. Dani Wyatt showed class keeping the pressure on the Pakistani
bowlers. Baig was simply outstanding with her line and lengths not allowing Wyatt
and Knight to score runs easily. At the end of the first 10 overs, England women
made 48 for 1.
Wyatt kept the pressure on the Pakistani bowlers and
completed her fifty off 51 balls. Heather Knight also looked impressive to
complete the job for England. Both Knight and Wyatt added unbeaten 87 runs for
the 2nd wicket. The defending Champions England registered an
emphatic 9 wickets win with 30.4 overs remaining.
England women 107 for 1 in 19.2 overs ( Dani Wyatt 76*,
