IPL 2022 Match 2: Axar Patel’s and Lalit Yadav takes Delhi Capitals to a heroic win
Delhi Capitals registered a thrilling victory over Mumbai Indians in their opening match of Tata IPL 2022 played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI, Mumbai on Sunday.
DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field
first. Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan put pressure back
on DC bowlers right from the word go hitting boundaries at will. Rohit made the
batting look easy to maintain the momentum for MI. At the end of the first six
overs, Mumbai Indians made 53 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.
After the field restrictions, Kuldeep Yadav got the breakthrough
dismissing Rohit Sharma caught by Powell ending 67 runs opening partnership. Ishan
Kishan looked in sublime touch keeping pressure on the Delhi Capitals bowlers. Tilak
Verma showed intent scoring at a quick pace and made life tough for the
opposition. Apart from Kishan, the rest of the Mumbai Indians batsmen struggled to
time the ball. At the end of the second timeout, MI made 122 for 4.
Ishan Kishan completed his fifty off 34 balls and maintained
the momentum for Mumbai Indians. A good, disciplined bowling effort by Delhi
Capitals bowlers restricted MI to 177 for 5.
In reply, Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert provided a flying start putting on 30 runs before Murgun Ashwin and Tymal Mills got 3 quick wickets to derail Delhi
Capital. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals made 46 for 3. At
the end of the first timeout, Delhi Capitals scored 58 for 3.
After the restrictions, Shaw impressed one and all before
being dismissed by Basil Thampi to leave Delhi Capitals struggling at 72 for 4.
Shaw and Lalit Yadav added 40 runs for the 4th wicket. Rovman Powell
fell without opening his account. Shardul Thakur provided stability along with
Lalit Yadav keeping pressure on MI bowling. At the end of the 2nd
timeout, DC scored 103 for 5. Thampi dismissed Thakur caught by Sharma to leave
DC in trouble at 104 for 6. Thakur and Yadav added 32 runs for the 6th
wicket.
Axar Patel joined in with Lalit Yadav and put Mumbai Indians
bowlers under immense pressure against Daniel Sams and Bumrah. Both displayed
great hitting abilities making life tough for MI bowlers ensuring 4 wicket win.
Patel and Yadav added unbeaten 75 runs for the 7th wicket.
Delhi Capitals 179 for 6 in 18.2 overs (Lalit Yadav 48*,
Axar Patel 38*, Basil Thampi 3/35) beat Mumbai Indians 177 for 5 in 20 overs (
Ishan Kishan 81*, Kuldeep Yadav 3/18) by 4 wickets.
For his figures of 3 for 18 in 4 overs, Kuldeep Yadav was
named the man of the match award.
