IPL 2022 Match 4: Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow SuperGiants in a thriller

In a match of two debutant teams, Gujarat Titans defeated Lucknow Supergiants in a thriller played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday.

Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for GT as Mohammed Shami produced a stunning delivery getting the wicket of KL Rahul off the very first ball via review for caught. The umpire gave it not out but on review, it was overturned to out hitting the outside edge. Shami troubled the Supergiant's batsmen not allowing them to score runs easily.

Shami then produced another superb delivery to dismiss de Kock leaving Lucknow in trouble. A stunning catch by Shubman Gill ended the innings for Evin Lewis. Shami then got rid of Manish Pandey leaving Lucknow Supergiants in massive trouble at 29 for 4 and ended the first powerplay overs at 32 for 4.

Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni making his IPL debut steadied the ship for the Lucknow team putting pressure on the Gujarat Titans bowlers. At the end of the first timeout, LSG made 42 for 4. Hooda and Badoni showed intent to keep pressure on opposition bowlers. Hooda maintained pressure on the GT bowlers and completed fifty off 36 balls. Both batters kept the pressure on the bowlers and revived a strong comeback. At the end of the second timeout, Lucknow Supergiants made 109 for 4.

Rashid Khan provided the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Deepak Hooda via review. Hooda and Badoni added 87 runs for the 5th wicket. Krunal Pandya joined in with Badoni keeping the pressure on GT bowlers. Badoni completed his fifty off 38 balls and was eventually dismissed in the last over. Badoni and Krunal Pandya added 40 runs for the 6th wicket. After an impressive first 3 overs, Mohammed Shami was smashed. At the end of 20 overs, Lucknow Supergiants made 158 for 6.

It was a disastrous start for Gujarat Titans losing Shubman Gill in the first over by Chameera. Chameera produced another stunning delivery dismissing Vijay Shankar to leave Gujarat Titans in trouble. Matthew Wade and captain Hardik Pandya steadied the ship putting pressure on the Lucknow bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, Gujarat Titans scored 44 for 2. With that, the first timeout was called.

Wade and Hardik Pandya kept the pressure on the LSG bowlers. Krunal Pandya got the important breakthrough by dismissing Hardik Pandya providing a simple catch to Manish Pandey at long-off. Hardik and Wade added 57 runs for the 3rd wicket. Deepak Hooda dismissed well-set Matthew Wade in quick succession to leave Gujarat Titans struggling. David Miller came to the crease along with Rahul Tewaita.

The pressure was on with the Gujarat Titans batsmen. At the end of the 2nd timeout, Gujarat Titans made 88 for 4. Rahul Tewaita and Miller changed the momentum smashing 22 runs off Deepak Hooda. Avesh Khan again showed class by getting rid of Miller caught by KL Rahul on the second attempt. Miller and Tewaita added 60 runs for the 5th wicket. With 11 runs required off the last over, Abhinav Manohar scored a quickfire cameo. Tewaita hit winning runs with a boundary to help Gujarat Titans win the match by 5 wickets.
