IPL 2022 Match 7: LSG stun CSK in a high scoring thriller
Lucknow Super Giants opened their account with a well-paced chase against Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring thriller played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI on Thursday.
LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field
first. Robin Uthappa looked in sublime touch right from the word go putting enough
pressure on the new ball bowlers. A superb direct throw by Ravi Bishnoi
resulted in the run-out by Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply. Moeen Ali joined in with Uthappa
and kept the pressure on LSG bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, CSK raced
away to 73 for 1. With that, the first timeout was called.
Uthappa showed intent and reached fifty off just 25 balls. Ravi
Bishnoi struck for LSG getting rid of Uthappa LBW. Uthappa and Moeen Ali added 56
runs for the 2nd wicket. The umpire gave it not out, but LSG decided
to review the decision, and was overturned. Shivam Dube kept the pressure
on LSG bowlers along with Moeen. Avesh Khan dismissed Moeen Ali with stumps
rattled.
Ambati Rayudu and Dube kept the pressure on LSG bowlers to maintain
the momentum for CSK. At the end of the second timeout, CSK scored 136 for 3. Bishnoi
did not give many runs and grabbed the wicket of well-set Rayudu. Rayudu and Dube
added 60 runs for the 4th wicket. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja
played quickfire cameos to help CSK post a massive total of 210 for 7 in 20
overs. For LSG, Ravi Bishnoi, Andrew Tye, and Avesh Khan grabbed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 211 runs to win, KL Rahul and de Kock provided a
steady start for LSG keeping the pressure on CSK bowlers right from the word
go. The LSG openers never allowed the bowlers to settle making life tough for
them. At the end of the six overs, Rahul and de Kock scored 55 for 0.
After the field restrictions, de Kock and KL Rahul took the attack
to Moeen Ali and Jadeja keeping the momentum going on. At the end of the first
timeout, LSG scored 90 for 0.
Dwaine Pretorius produced the magic dismissing KL Rahul
caught by Rayudu. LSG openers added 99 runs for the opening wicket laying a
strong foundation. Tushar Desphande dismissed Manish Pandey cheaply to bring
back CSK into the match. De Kock looked in great touch reaching his fifty off
34 balls.
Pretorius dismissed well-set de Kock providing an easy catch to
Dhoni. De Kock and Lewis added 33 runs for the 3rd wicket. Lewis
played with intent keeping pressure back on CSK bowlers. At the end of the second
timeout, LSG ended at 156 for 3.
The match ebbed and flowed with Evin Lewis smashing CSK
bowlers. Bravo struck for CSK dismissing Deepak Hooda after a quickfire cameo.
Lewis and Hooda added 32 runs for the 4th wicket. Lewis and Ayush
Badoni shifted the momentum of the innings hitting 25 runs off Shivam Dube in
the 19th over. Lewis completed fifty off 23 balls making sure that
LSG is on course for a win. Mukesh Chaudhary buckled under pressure as Badoni
and Lewis chased this massive target.
LSG 211 for 4 in 19.3 overs (de Kock 61, Lewis 55*, Dwaine Pretorius
2/31) beat CSK 210 for 7 in 20 overs (Uthappa 50, Dube 49, Bishnoi 2/24) by 6
wickets.
For his unbeaten 55 off 23 balls, Evin Lewis was awarded the
man of the match. LSG opened their account after losing their first match.
