IPL 2022 Match 27: Dinesh Kartik’s knock and bowling helps RCB register win

 Thanks to a superb knock by Dinesh Karthik and impressive bowling, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Delhi Capitals in a high-scoring match played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday.

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for DC as Shardul Thakur produced a stunning inswing delivery getting rid of Anuj Rawat without opening his account. Khaleel Ahmed dismissed du Plessis caught by Axar Patel to leave RCB in trouble at 13 for 2. Maxwell showed intent right from the word go putting the bad deliveries away for boundaries while Kohli struggled to time the ball. At the end of the first six overs, RCB reached 40 for 2.

A superb direct throw resulted in the run-out of Kohli to leave RCB in trouble. Maxwell kept the pressure on Kuldeep Yadav hitting 23 runs in his first over. RCB ended the first timeout at 70 for 3. Prabhudessai fell cheaply trying to reverse sweep caught by Kuldeep Yadav at backward point. Prabhudessai and Maxwell added 35 runs for the 4th wicket.

Maxwell looked in brilliant touch completing fifty off 30 balls. Kuldeep struck to dismiss well-set Maxwell caught by Lalit Yadav at long-on to leave RCB in big trouble at 92 for 5. Pant dropped a tough chance to dismiss Dinesh Karthik. Karthik launched an attack on Delhi Capitals bowlers especially Mustafizur Rahman hitting him for 28 runs. The dashing Karthik kept on piling runs completing his fifty off 26 balls and then continued his aggressive intent. Karthik was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out hitting the inside edge. Pant gave the final over to Kuldeep Yadav. Shahbaz Ahmed and Karthik smashed him for runs helping RCB post 190 for 4 in 20 overs. RCB batsmen added unbeaten 97 runs for the 6th wicket.

It was an exceptional inning by Dinesh Karthik keeping the momentum going after starting slowly. Shahbaz Ahmed also provided good support along with Karthik to help RCB post a competitive total.

Chasing 191 runs to win, David Warner looked in brilliant touch taking on RCB bowlers. Prithvi Shaw also showed intent by putting bad deliveries away for boundaries. Siraj provided the breakthrough by dismissing Shaw caught by Anuj Rawat. Shaw and Warner raced away to 50 runs providing a solid foundation. Mitchell Marsh struggled at number 3 not able to rotate the strike. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals made 57 for 1.

Warner looked in decent touch completing fifty off 29 balls maintaining the momentum. At the end of the first timeout, DC scored 75 for 1. Hasaranga dismissed the dangerous Warner with a review for LBW. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out. Warner and Marsh added 44 runs for the 2nd wicket. Mitchell Marsh looked out of sorts with required run-rate climbing. Pant hit a forceful shot hitting the hand of Hasaranga leaving Marsh short of the crease.

At the end of the second timeout, Delhi Capitals made 112 for 3. Josh Hazlewood struck twice dismissing Rovman Powell and then Lalit Yadav to leave DC in trouble. Pant showed intent against Hasaranga putting him under pressure. A superb one-handed catch by Kohli ended the innings for Pant. Shardul Thakur tried his level best to help DC register a win, but Hazlewood looked impressive grabbing the wicket of Thakur.

With 27 runs required off the final over, it was too little too late as RCB registered 16 runs win over DC.

Royal Challengers Bangalore 189 for 5 in 20 overs ( Dinesh Karthik 66*, Maxwell 55, Thakur 1/27) beat Delhi Capitals 173 for 7 in 20 overs ( Warner 66, Pant 34, Hazlewood 3/28, Siraj 2/31) by 16 runs.

For his unbeaten 66 off 34 balls and 2 catches, Dinesh Karthik was named the man of the match award.
