IPL 2022 Match 30: Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-scoring thriller

Rajasthan Royals held their nerves as they registered a thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-scoring thriller played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI, on Monday.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first. Jos Buttler provided a flying start putting pressure on KKR opening bowlers right from the word. Buttler showed class against spinners hitting them for runs while Devdutt Paddikal gave good support to him. At the end of the first six overs, Rajasthan Royals raced away to 60 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.

Buttler completed fifty off 29 balls and maintained the momentum along with Paddikal. Sunil Narine provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Paddikal who went early to the shot and was bowled. Paddikal and Buttler added 97 runs laying a strong foundation for a big total. Sanju Samson came to the crease taking on KKR bowlers, especially Chakravarthy keeping the scoreboard ticking.

Buttler and Samson kept the pressure right on the KKR bowlers. Russell eventually struck getting rid of Samson caught by Mavi. Buttler and Samson added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket. Soon after, the second timeout was called with the scoreboard reading 164 for 2. Buttler looked in great touch completing century off 59 balls maintaining momentum. A lovely, combined effort by Cummins and Mavi resulted in the wicket of Riyan Parag to stem the flow of runs.

Shivam Mavi got rid of Karun Nair with a good catch by Cummins at long-on. Shimron Hetymer struggled initially with his timing before launching an attack on Russell smashing him for 18 runs to help Rajasthan Royals post a massive total of 217 for 5 in 20 overs. Buttler became the sixth batsman in IPL history to hit 2 or more centuries. It was a sensational effort by Buttler, cameos by Samson and Hetymer helped RR post a massive total.

Chasing 218 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for KKR as Sunil Narine was run out with a direct hit without facing any deliveries. Shreyas Iyer looked in great touch hitting boundaries at will. Aaron Finch showed intent in keeping the scoreboard ticking with attacking strokes making life tough for RR bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 57 for 1.

Chahal struck getting rid of Rana caught by Buttler. Rana and Shreyas Iyer added 41 runs for the 3rd wicket. With that wicket, the second timeout was called at 148 for 3.

R Ashwin struck with a big wicket of Andre Russell to help RR back into the game. Shreyas Iyer showed class playing some lovely shots. Sanju Samson dropped a chance to get rid of the KKR captain. Shreyas Iyer took advantage of it keeping the KKR hopes alive.

Umesh Yadav kept KKR alive in the match smacking Trent Boult for 20 runs in the 18th over. Prasidh Krishna showed great character to give away 7 runs.

With 11 runs to defend, Obed McCoy looked calm dismissing Sheldon Jackson providing an easy catch to Krishna at short-fine leg. He then got rid of Umesh Yadav helping Rajasthan Royals register 7 run win.
