IPL 2022 Match 37: KL Rahul’s century and bowlers give LSG comfortable win

 Thanks to a brilliant century by KL Rahul and an impressive bowling effort, Lucknow Super Giants kept Mumbai Indians wineless played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

Mumbai Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. It was a cautious start by Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul. Jasprit Bumrah struck for Mumbai Indians dismissing de Kock providing a simple catch to Rohit Sharma. At the end of the first six overs, LSG made 32 for 1 and ended the first timeout at 38 for 1.

KL Rahul showed intent to put pressure on the Mumbai Indians bowlers. Manish Pandey looked decent enough to keep the scoreboard ticking. KL Rahul made the batting look easy completing fifty off 37 balls. Kieron Pollard made an important breakthrough by getting rid of Manish Pandey caught by Meredith at the short-fine leg. Pandey and KL Rahul added 58 runs for the 2nd wicket. MI bowlers kept it tight not allowing other LSG batsmen to score runs easily. Sams struck dismissing Marcus Stoinis caught by Tilak Verma at deep midwicket. Pollard got the wicket of Krunal Pandya with a well deceived slower delivery. At the end of the second timeout, LSG made 116 for 4.

Rahul looked in sensational form putting pressure on MI bowlers and completed 2nd century off 61 balls. Ayush Badoni provided great support to Rahul and added a few important runs. Badoni and KL Rahul added 47 runs for the 6th wicket. Lucknow Super Giants posted 168 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 169 runs to win, Rohit Sharma showed intent right from word go while Ishan Kishan struggled with his batting not being able to time the ball. Rohit took the charge putting bad balls away for boundaries. At the end of the first six overs, MI made 43 for 0.

Ishan Kishan was dismissed in an unfortunate manner hitting the boot of Quinton de Kock and then going into the hands of Holder. Kishan made just 8 runs off 20 balls. MI openers added 49 runs for the opening wicket. KL Rahul changed the bowling attack as he bought Mohsin Khan getting the wicket of Dewald Brevis caught by Chameera at third man. With that wicket, the first timeout was called at 54 for 2.

Ravi Bishnoi got rid of Rohit Sharma caught by Krishnappa Gowtham at a short third man to leave MI in trouble. Ayush Badoni dismissed dangerous Surya Kumar Yadav to dent their progress. Tilak Verma looked in decent shape putting pressure on LSG bowlers. On the other hand, Pollard was not able to hit big shots.

At the end of the second timeout, MI made 110 for 4. LSG bowlers kept it tight not allowing Tilak and Pollard to hit big shots. Jason Holder got the breakthrough by dismissing Tilak Verma as Bishnoi took a good catch. Tilak and Pollard added 57 runs for the 5th wicket. Chameera bowled a stunning 19th over not allowing Pollard and Sams to hit big shots. Krunal Pandya grabbed wickets of Pollard, Sams, and Jaydev Unadkat was run-out. LSG won the match easily by 36 runs.

LSG 168 for 6 in 20 overs ( KL Rahul 103*, Pollard 2/8, Meredith 2/40) beat MI 132 for 8 in 20 overs ( Rohit Sharma 39, Tilak Verma 38, Krunal Pandya 3/19) by 36 runs.

For his unbeaten 103 off 62 balls, KL Rahul was named the man of the match award. LSG moves to fourth place in the points table.
