IPL 2022 Match 41: Delhi Capitals register comfortable win over KKR
Delhi Capitals returned to winning ways as they registered a comfortable win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.
DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field
first. Chetan Sakaryia playing his first game started well getting rid of Aaron
Finch with a lovely delivery. Venetaksh Iyer opened the innings for KKR but
failed to contribute anything dismissed by Axar Patel. At the end of the first six
overs, KKR scored just 29 for 2.
Baba Indrajith playing his first game was dismissed by
Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep Yadav looked impressive with 2nd wicket getting
the wicket of Sunil Narine to leave KKR in big trouble. At the end of the first
timeout, KKR made 46 for 4.
Nitish Rana and captain Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship putting
pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers. Shreyas looked decent enough by taking
singles and hitting occasional boundaries. On other hand, Nitish Rana showed
intent. A lovely superman catch by Pant ended the innings for Shreyas Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana added 48 runs for the 5th wicket.
Kuldeep Yadav got his fourth wicket getting the big fish of Andre Russell to
leave KKR in big trouble. With that wicket, the second timeout was called at 83
for 6.
Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh put enough pressure on DC
bowlers keeping the scoreboard ticking. Rana looked composed reaching fifty off
30 balls. Mustzifur Rahman bowled a brilliant 20th over giving away
just 2 runs and grabbing 3 wickets. He dismissed Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, and
Tim Southee with a stunning yorker. Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana added 62 runs
for the 7th wicket.
Chasing a modest total of 147 runs to win, Prithvi Shaw was dismissed
with a lovely return catch by Umesh Yadav on the very first delivery. Mitchell
Marsh making a comeback after COVID could not contribute much caught by Umesh
Yadav at deep midwicket. David Warner and Lalit Yadav showed intent right from the
word go putting pressure on KKR bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, DC
scored 47 for 2.
Lalit Yadav coming at number 4 looked decent enough along
with Warner. At the end of the first timeout, DC scored 66 for 2. Lalit and Warner
took the attack to Nitish Rana to keep DC on course. Umesh Yadav got breakthrough
dismissing Warner with a sharp bouncer caught by Narine at fine leg. Warner and
Lalit Yadav added 65 runs for the 3rd wicket. KKR made a comeback
into the match picking 2 more quick wickets of Lalit Yadav and Pant to leave the match in the balance.
At the end of the second timeout, Delhi Capitals reached 94
for 5. Axar showed intent on taking on Andre Russell to maintain the momentum. A
superb throw by Shreyas Iyer and gathered by Venetaksh ended in the run-out of Axar
to leave DC in some trouble. Rovman Powell showed his power smashing Venetaksh Iyer
for runs easily.
Rovman Powell put the bad balls away for big shots and hit
the winning runs with a six. Shardul Thakur and Powell respected Sunil Narine’s
final over. Powell and Thakur added unbeaten 37 runs for the 7th
wicket. Delhi Capitals registered 4 wicket win with 1 over to spare.
Delhi Capitals 150 for 6 in 19 overs (Warner 42, Powell 33*,
Umesh Yadav 3/24) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 146 for 9 in 20 overs (Nitish Rana
57, Shreyas Iyer 42, Kuldeep Yadav 4/14) by 4 wickets.
For his figures of 4 for 14 in 4 overs, Kuldeep Yadav was
named the man of the match award.
