Indian women versus Sri Lankan women 3rd T20I: Indian women lose

 The Indian women’s team did not perform according to expectations as they lost in the 3rd T20I match against hosts Sri Lanka played at Rangiri International Stadium, Dambulla on Monday.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start as Shafali Verma played a rash stroke providing an easy catch to Lankan captain Atthapathu. Smriti Mandhana and Meghana showed intent on keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first six overs, Indian women made 37 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Mandhana and Meghana fell in quick succession. Mandhana and Meghana added 41 runs for the 2nd wicket. Jemimah Rodrigues along with captain Harmanpreet Kaur struggled initially before putting enough pressure on the Lankan bowlers. Rodrigues fell to score quickly. Rodrigues and Kaur added 64 runs for the 4th wicket. Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar showed intent putting enough pressure in the last over to help Indian women post 138 for 5. Pooja Vastrakar was run out of the last ball.

Chasing 139 runs to win, the Sri Lankan team lost an early wicket of Vishmi Gunaratne in the very first over. Chamari Attapthu looked in sublime touch putting enough pressure on Indian bowling. Samarawickrama also played with intent before being dismissed by Radha Yadav. Samarawickrama and Lankan captain added 31 runs for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the first six overs, Sri Lankan women made 47 for 2.

Chamari showed intent on keeping the momentum going for Lanka along with Nilakshi de Silva. The Indian catching and ground fielding was not great. Chamari looked at ease while de Silva gave good support to the Lankan captain. Atthapatu completed her fifty off 29 balls and helped the Lankan team on course for a win. De Silva was run-out with a mix-up. De Silva and Chamari added 77 runs for the 3rd wicket. Lankan captain led from the front helping the Lankan team chase down the target with 3 overs to spare.

Sri Lankan women 141 for 3 in 17 overs ( Chamari Atthapathu 80*, de Silva 30, Renuka Singh 1/27) beat Indian women 138 for 5 in 20 overs ( Kaur 39*, Rodrigues 33, Ranasinghe 1/13) by 7 wickets.

For her unbeaten 80 off 48 balls, Chamari Athapathtu was named the player of the series. She also took 2 catches.

Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the player of the series for her 92 runs and 1 wicket. Indian women’s team won 3 matches T20I series by 2-1.
