Malaysia Open 2022 Day 2: PV Sindhu, Kashyap enters second round
It was a decent day for the Indian shuttlers as PV Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap progressed into the second round of the Super 750 Malaysia Open played in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
After a disappointing first-round loss in the Indonesia
Open, PV Sindhu showed good form as she defeated Chocuwong of Thailand easily.
It was a dominating performance by Sindhu who looked in great form right from
the word go and did not allow her opponent to comeback into the match. She won
the match in two straight games by 21-13, and 21-17. The star Indian shuttler will
face P Chaiwan of Thailand in the second round.
However, it was a disappointing performance by Saina Nehwal
who has been struggling for quite some lost to Iris Wang of the United States of
America. The Indian lost in two straight games by 11-21, and 17-21.
Parupalli Kashyap showed great promise as he defeated Heo K-H
of South Korea in two straight games. The Indian shuttler looked in great touch
winning the game by 21-11, 21-17 to move into the second round. Kashyap moved
into the main round from the qualifying rounds.
On the opening day of the competition, HS Prannoy, the men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik and Chirag Shetty progressed into the second round.
Sameer Verma and Sai Praneeth lost in the first round after giving tough competition.
Prannoy defeated Daren Liew of Malaysia in three thrilling
games. The Indian shuttler won the first game easily by 21-14 before Liew
showed great fighting spirit to win the second game by 21-17. It was a closely
fought third game as Prannoy held his nerves winning by 21-18 to move into the
second round. He will face Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.
Satwik and Chirag Shetty defeated Man W C and Tee K W of
Malaysia in two straight games. The Indian pair won the first game by 21-18 and
then dominated their opposition winning by 21-11 in the second game to move into
the second round. They will take on Goh S F and Izzudin of Malaysia.
