Ranji Trophy 2021/22 Finals Day 1: Honours even

 The first day of the finals between Mumbai and Madhya saw a good contest between both bat and ball with honors even played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw won the toss and decided to bat first. The left-handed bat Jaiswal showed played cautiously against Kumar Kartikeya. On other hand, Shaw looked in decent touch hitting the deliveries away for boundaries. Gaurav Yadav troubled Shaw with lovely deliveries going past his outside edge.

Shaw and Jaiswal kept the scoreboard ticking maintaining the momentum for Mumbai. Anubhav Agarwal produced a stunning delivery to get rid of Shaw. Shaw and Jaiswal added 87 runs for the opening wicket. Arman Jaffer looked confident with disciplined bowling by Madhya Pradesh bowlers. Jaiswal hit the bad deliveries away for boundaries and left the good deliveries. Mumbai ended the first session at 106 for 1.

After the lunch break, MP bowlers kept a tight lid on Mumbai batsmen. Kumar Kartikeya got rid of Jaffer with a sharp catch by Yash Dubey at short midwicket. Jaffer and Jaiswal added 33 runs for the 2nd wicket. Suved Parkar also looked composed while Jaiswal completed fifty off 129 balls.

Saransh Jain coming back into his new spell grabbed the wicket of Parkar to leave Mumbai in some trouble. Jaiswal showed intent putting pressure on MP bowlers with positive intent while Sarfaraz Khan also made positive moves. Anubhav Agarwal got the big wicket of Jaiswal caught by Dubey at gully. At the end of the second session, Mumbai made 201 for 4.

The third session saw MP bowlers keep things tight against Tamore and Sarfraz Khan. Saransh Jain took an important wicket of Tamore with a simple catch to Patidar. Tamore and Sarfraz Khan put on 43 runs for the 5th wicket. Sarfaraz Khan looked a little cautious against disciplined MP bowling. Shams Mulani also struggled against MP bowlers not able to rotate the strike on a regular basis.

MP captain Aditya Srivastava took the 2nd new right before close of play. Sarfaraz Khan and Mulani helped Mumbai end day 1 on 248 for 5.
