Sri Lanka seal the series with a thrilling win

The Sri Lankan Cricket Team registered a thrilling win in the 4th T20I match over Australia played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Tuesday.

Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the visitors as Maxwell got rid of Dickwella with a lovely stumping by Carey. Kusal Mendis and Nissanka looked steady with positive intent. Pat Cummins making his comeback into the XI grabbed the wicket of Mendis taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Mitchell Marsh grabbed Nissanka's wicket to leave Sri Lanka in big trouble at 34 for 3. At the end of the first 10 overs, Sri Lanka scored 35 for 3.

Dhanajaya and Asalanaka added 101 runs for the 4th wicket. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka was run-out in an unfortunate manner with a mix-up with Asalanaka.

Dinuth Wellage was promoted to number 6 and did a decent job. Asalanaka looked in sensational form putting enough pressure on Australian bowlers with brilliant shots keeping the momentum going. Kuhemman struck for the visitors dismissing Wellage caught by Warner. Wellage and Asalanaka put on 57 runs for the 6th wicket. Asalanaka showed impressive intent reaching his maiden ODI century off 99 balls.

The Australian bowlers made a strong comeback by picking wickets at regular intervals. Chamika Karaunate was given not out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to out. Asalanaka fell trying to hit a big shot. Hasranaga looked confident with his shots but ran out of partners. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 258 in 49 overs.

Chasing 259 runs to win, it was not an ideal start as Aaron Finch was dismissed cheaply by Chamika Karauante after some tight bowling by Lankan opening bowlers. David Warner looked in decent touch putting pressure while Mitchell Marsh struggled against top-quality spinners. At the end of the first 10 overs, Australia made 45 for 1.

Wellage produced the magic-grabbing wicket of Mitchell Marsh. Marsh and Warner added 63 runs for the 2nd wicket. Warner looked composed keeping the scoreboard ticking completing fifty off 49 balls. On other hand, Marnus Labuschange struggled against Lankan spinners. Vandersay showed his taking the big wicket of Labuschange. Warner and Labuschange added 35 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Alex Carey could not contribute much before being dismissed by Vandersay to leave Australia in big trouble at 131 for 4. Travis Head and Warner kept the momentum going on for the visitors taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. With things looking smooth, Dhanajaya de Silva got rid of Head with a lovely delivery. Head and Warner added 58 runs for the 5th wicket. Soon after, Maxwell also perished via review for LBW. The umpire gave it not out but on review, it was overturned to out leaving Australia on the backfoot.

A superb piece of stumping by Dickwella ended the innings for Warner to leave Australia struggling. Pat Cummins and Cameron Green struggled against top-quality spinners. Both kept them on course with singles. Vandersaay got rid of Green taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Green and Cummins added 31 runs for the 8th wicket. Pat Cummins looked to keep strike as Kuhemann struggled.

Chamika Karaunate produced a stunning yorker to dismiss Pat Cummins to leave Australia in trouble. Dasun Shanaka was handed the final over with 19 runs required. Kuhemmann showed his class and produced innovative strokes. With 5 runs needed off the last delivery, Shanaka got rid of Kuhemann to give Sri Lanka 4 runs win.

Sri Lanka 258 in 49 overs ( Asalanaka 110, Dhanajya de Silva 60, Mitchell Marsh 2/29, Cummins 2/37) beat Australia 254 in 50 overs ( Warner 99, Cummins 35, Dhanjaya de Silva 2/39, Vandersay 2/40) by 4 runs.
