Asia Cup 2022 Match 4: India through to the Super 4 stage with comfortable win
The Indian team continued their winning run as they defeated Hong Kong comfortably played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Wednesday.
Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan won the toss and decided to field
first. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul looked cautious in the first 2 overs. The
Indian openers took on Haroon Rashid in his 2nd over smashing him for
22 runs to change the momentum. Ayush Shukla struck for Hong Kong dismissing
Rohit Sharma with an easy catch by Aizaz Khan. Rohit and Rahul added 38 runs for the opening
wicket. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli did not look at ease against disciplined Hong
Kong bowling. At the end of the first six overs, India made 44 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Kohli attacked the Hong Kong
bowling while Rahul struggled to hit big shots. Ghazanfar made the breakthrough by dismissing out-of-touch KL Rahul with a juggling catch by McKechnie. Rahul and
Kohli added 56 runs for the 2nd wicket. Surya Kumar Yadav looked in
great touch right from the word go hitting 3 boundaries from the first 6
deliveries. Kohli showed his class keeping momentum going for India.
Surya Kumar Yadav showed an array of strokes completing fifty
off just 22 balls while Kohli reached a half-century off 40 balls. Surya smashed
Haroon Rashid for 4 sixes in the finals and added unbeaten 98 runs to help the Indian team post 192 for 2. It was a brilliant batting performance by Team
India as Surya remained not out on 68 while Kohli on 59.
Chasing 193 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for Hong
Kong as they lost an early wicket of Yasim Murtaza with a sharp bouncer caught
by Avesh Khan. Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan struggled for rhythm as Babar
Hayat took them to the cleaners. A superb direct hit by Ravindra Jadeja from a
free-hit resulted in the run-out of Nizakat Khan. Nizakat and Babar Hayat added
39 runs for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the first six overs, Hong Kong
reached 51 for 2.
Ravindra Jadeja's impressive performance continued with the
ball dismissing dangerous Babar Hayat at point to put Hong Kong on the
backfoot. Avesh Khan struggled for rhythm in his 2nd spell as Kinchit
Shah and Aizaz Khan showed their class. Avesh eventually got his first wicket
dismissing Aizaz. Shah and Aizaz added 31 runs for the 4th wicket.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a superb 18th over
grabbing the wicket of Kinchit Shah with a lovely catch by substitute fielder
Ravi Bishnoi. Zeeshan Ali and Scott McKechnie played some good shots against
Avesh and Arshdeep Singh in the final 2 overs. Both Hong Kong batters put on unbeaten
36 runs for the 6th wicket.
India registered a comfortable 40-run win and topped Pool A.
It was an impressive performance by Chahal and Jadeja while Avesh and Arshdeep
went for 97 runs in their 8 overs.
India 192 for 2 in 20 overs ( Surya Kumar Yadav 68*, Kohli
59*, Ayush Shukla 1/29) beat Hong Kong 152 for 5 in 20 overs ( Babar Hayat 41,
Kinchit Shah 30, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/15) by 40 runs.
For his unbeaten 68 off 28 balls, Surya Kumar Yadav was
named the man of the match award.
India beat Hong Kong by 40 runs to qualify for the Super 4 stage
