India versus Zimbabwe 2nd ODI: Indian team seal the series with another dominating performance

The Indian second-string side produced another dominating performance in the 2nd One-day international match against hosts Zimbabwe played at Harare Sports Club, Harare on Saturday.

Indian captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field first. Deepak Chahar did not feature in the playing XI because of a slight injury. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj took advantage of bowling conditions troubling the Zimbabwe openers. Siraj got the breakthrough eventually dismissing Kaitano with a disappointing performance scoring just 7 off 32 balls. At the end of the first 10 overs, Zimbabwe made 26 for 1.

Shardul Thakur replacing Deepak Chahar in the playing XI got rid of Innocent Kaia to leave Zimbabwe struggling. Thakur then produced another lovely delivery to dismiss captain Regis Chakabva. Krishna then did the damage by getting the wicket of Medherve leaving the hosts in tatters at 31 for 4.

Sean Williams looked confident keeping the scoreboard ticking while Sikander Raza was not able to score runs against disciplined Indian bowling. Kuldeep Yadav ended the partnership by dismissing Raza providing an easy catch to Gill. Raza and Williams added 41 runs for the 5th wicket. Ryan Burl and Williams looked in decent touch keeping the scoreboard ticking. The Indian fielding was not up to the mark as they dropped catches. Deepak Hooda touched the golden arm getting rid of Sean Williams with a simple catch to Dhawan. Williams and Burl added 33 runs for the 6th wicket. Ryan Burl looked in decent touch while the other Zimbabwe batters did not give much support to Burl. It was a great effort as Indian team skittled out the hosts for just 161 in 38.1 overs.

Chasing 162 runs to win, KL Rahul came to open the innings but did not last long as he was dismissed by Nyauchi with a lovely delivery. Shubman Gill and Dhawan looked at ease playing attacking strokes not allowing the Zimbabwe bowlers to settle. Chivanga produced a surprise bouncer to dismiss well-set Dhawan caught by Kaia. Dhawan and Gill added 42 runs for the 2nd wicket. Zimbabwe bowlers struggled with his rhythm with a lot of extra deliveries. At the end of the first 10 overs, India raced away to 75 for 2.

Jongwe grabbed the wicket of Ishan Kishan taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Kishan and Gill added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket. Shubman Gill perished while trying to cut a shot providing an easy catch to Evans at third man. Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda showed their class with positive shots making life easy for the Indian team. Deepak Hooda was disappointed as he yorked himself by Sikander Raza. Hooda and Samson added 56 runs for the 5th wicket.

Sanju Samson hit the winning runs with a lovely six to help the Indian team win the match by 5 wickets with 24.2 overs left.

India 167 for 5 in 25.4 overs (Samson 43*, Dhawan 33, Jongwe 2/33) beat Zimbabwe 161 in 38.1 overs ( Sean Williams 42, Ryan Burl 39*, Shardul Thakur 3/38) by 5 wickets.

For his unbeaten 43 and 3 catches, Samson was awarded the man of the match award. With this win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead. The third and final ODI will be played on 22nd August.

India took 10 more points in the ICC ODI Super League tournament. They would be looking to test their strength and bat first on a tough batting pitch.
