England versus Pakistan 6th T20I: Phil Salt heroics helps England level series
England registered a dominating win with a superb batting display by Phil Salt in the 6th T20I match played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Friday.
England captain Moeen Ali won the toss and decided to field
first. Mohammad Haris making his T20I debut replacing Mohammad Rizwan could not
contribute much dismissed trying to hit a big shot. Shan Masood disappointed
with a poor stroke before burning the review. Babar Azam looked in decent touch
putting bad balls away for boundaries along with Haider Ali. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan scored 40 for 2.
Babar and Haider steadied the ship putting on some lovely
runs before Sam Curran bounced out Haider Ali caught by Duckett. Babar and
Haider added 47 runs for the 3rd wicket. Babar and Iftikhar kept the
momentum for Pakistan with attacking shots that did not allow England bowlers
to settle.
Babar looked composed reaching fifty off 41 balls while Iftikhar
scored runs at a quick pace. Sam Curran dismissed Iftikhar with a simple catch to
Brooks. Ifkthitar and Babar added 48 runs for the 4th wicket. Babar
upped the ante smashing England bowlers all over the park while Asif Ali and
Nawaz could not contribute many runs. At the end of 20 overs, Pakistan posted 169
for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 170 runs to win, Phil Salt and Alex Hales showed
intent right from word go putting the Pakistan bowlers under immense pressure.
England openers never allowed them to settle keeping the momentum going. Shahbad
Khan provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Hales caught by Dahani.
England openers put on 55 runs in 3.5 overs laying a solid foundation.
Phil Salt never looked back smashing Pakistan bowlers
reaching fifty off 19 balls. It was a superb batting effort by Dawid Malan
showing his class. Shahbad Khan dismissed Malan with a delivery that kept low.
Malan and Salt added 73 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Ben Duckett and Phil Salt kept England on course for a
crushing victory. Salt continued his superb timing to help England register 8
wicket win with 33 balls to spare. Duckett and Salt added unbeaten 42 runs for
the 3rd wicket.
England 170 for 2 in 14.3 overs ( Salt 88*, Shahbad Khan
2/34) beat Pakistan 169 for 6 in 20 overs ( Babar Azam 87*, Sam Curran 2/26, Willey
2/32) by 8 wickets.
For his unbeaten 88 off 41 balls, Phil Salt was named the
man of the match award. The series is leveled at 3-3 with decider to be played
on 2nd October.
