Pakistan versus England 2nd T20I: Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam special helps Pakistan level series
Thanks to Mohammad Rizwan’s and Babar Azam's unbeaten opening partnership, Pakistan recorded 10 wickets win over England in the 2nd T20I match played at National Stadium, Karachi on Thursday.
England captain Moeen Ali won the toss and decided to bat
first. Alex Hales and Phil Salt got off to a decent start putting pressure on
Pakistan bowlers. Shahnawaz Dahani provided the much-needed breakthrough
dismissing Hales and Dawid Malan off successive deliveries rattling stumps.
England openers added 42 runs for the opening wicket and ended the first six overs
at 48 for 2.
Ben Duckett looked in fine touch putting pressure on the
Pakistani spinners especially Usman Qadir sweeping him for boundaries. On the other
hand, Phil Salt played the supporting role. Haris Rauf was bought into the attack
and dismissed Phil Salt with a lovely delivery. Salt and Duckett added 53 runs
for the 3rd wicket. Mohammad Nawaz bowling his last over got rid of
well-set Duckett going across the stumps.
Moeen Ali took the attack to Usman Qadir putting him under
immense pressure. Harry Brooks looked in fine touch keeping the momentum going for
England. Rauf struck to rattle the stumps of Brooks. Brooks and Moeen Ali added
59 runs for the 5th wicket. Pakistani fielding was not great as
Moeen Ali was given a reprieve. Moeen Ali smashed Pakistani bowlers all over
the park making especially against Hasnain. He completed his fifty off just 23
balls with a six from the last delivery to help England post 199 for 5. Moeen and Curran
added unbeaten 39 runs for the 6th wicket.
Chasing a mammoth total of 200 runs to win, Babar Azam and
Rizwan put pressure on the England bowlers right from the word go maintaining
pressure. Hales could not hold onto a catch to dismiss Babar Azam. Rizwan and
Babar kept the scoreboard ticking not allowing visitors bowlers to settle. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan openers made 59 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Phil Salt missed a golden
stumping chance to dismiss Rizwan. Rizwan and Babar kept the scoreboard ticking
easily not making life easy for England bowlers. Rizwan completed fifty off 30
balls while Babar reached half-century off 39 balls. Pakistan openers kept
piling pressure on England bowlers especially Moeen Ali taking him for 21 runs.
They looked in complete control converting ones into twos.
Babar Azam reached his 2nd T20I century off 60
balls and never looked back. Pakistan openers ensured that they chase down this
target with 3 deliveries to spare.
Pakistan 203 for 0 in 19.3 overs (Babar Azam 110*, Rizwan
88*, Liam Dawson 0/26) beat England 199 for 5 in 20 overs (Moeen Ali 55*, Duckett
43, Haris Rauf 2/30, Dahani 2/37) by 10 wickets.
For his unbeaten 110 off 66 balls, Babar Azam was named the
man of the match award. With this win, Pakistan leveled the 7-match T20I
series at 1-1. The third T20I will be played at the same venue tomorrow.
