Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2023: India progress to semi-finals with comeback win.

 The Indian Badminton Team produced a stunning comeback win over Hong Kong in the quarterfinals of the Mixed Asia Team Championship 2023 played in Dubai on 17th February 2023.

Ishan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto lost to Lee Chun and NG Tsz Yau in the mixed doubles match. It was a very closely fought match right from the word go with both pairs taking alternate points. The match ebbed and flowed right till the end as both teams got game points but were not able to convert. Hong Kong pair held onto their nerves to win the first game 26-24. The second game was also closely fought but Lee and NG showed class winning it 21-17 giving Hong Kong a 1-0 lead.

Lakshya Sen went down fighting to Na Ka Long Anus in three games. The match ebbed and flowed in the first game with both players fighting for each point. Sen showed his fighting spirit as kept pressure on Long to win the first game 22-20. The second game was another closely fought affair with both players fighting for each point. This time, Long took the advantage and won the second game at 21-19 to force the game into the decider.

Sen and Long showed their fighting spirit in the 3rd game also but Sen committed a few unforced errors as Long won it 21-18 to give Hong Kong a 2-0 lead.

The scarth pair of Dhruv Kapila and Chirag Shetty defeated Tang Chun Man and Yeung Shing Choi in men’s doubles match. The Indian pair looked in a dominating position with a commanding 11-1 lead at the interval. After the break, Chun and Yeung showed their fighting spirit to take points in succession keeping the momentum going. The Hong Kong pair kept the pressure on the Indian pair and won the first game 22-20.

Kapila and Shetty struggled initially in the second game before producing a dominating display to win it 21-16 to force it into the decider. The Indian pair looked in complete control in the final game and won it easily by 21-11 giving India their first point.

PV Sindhu defeated Saloni Mehta in three games. Sindhu looked a little scratchy in the first game as Saloni won the first game easily at 21-16. The Indian showed her experience with dominating display winning the next two games by 21-7 and 21-9 to level the tie at 2-2.

Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated NG Tsz Yau and NG Wing Yung in two straight games. The Indian pair looked dominating right from the word go putting pressure on the Hong Kong pair. Tressa and Gayatri won it in straight games by 21-13, 21-12 to move into the semi-finals.
