ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers Day 4: Scotland and Oman register victories.
The fourth
day of ICC ODI World Cup qualifiers saw Scotland start the tournament with a
thrilling win over Ireland while Oman registered their second successive win
against UAE.

Ireland
Scotland
came back from nowhere to register a famous win over Ireland at Bulawayo Sports
Club, Bulawayo on 21 June 2023. Scotland captain Richard Berrington won the
toss and decided to field first.
It was an
ideal start for Scotland as McMullen struck twice in the same over dismissing
Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie. McMullen got rid of Harry Tector to leave
Ireland in trouble at 17 for 3. Scotland bowlers kept it tight not allowing the
Ireland batters score runs easily. Mark Watt dismissed Lorcan Tucker cheaply on
conditions that helped pacers. At the end of 10 overs, Ireland looked in
trouble at 34 for 4.
Andy
McBrine looked in decent touch before McBride produced a lovely delivery to
dismiss him. McBrine and Curtis Campher added 37 runs for the 5th
wicket. Campher and Dockrell came at the crease to put pressure on Scotland
bowlers keeping scoreboard ticking.
Campher
completed half-century off 68 deliveries while Dockrell reached fifty off 75
balls to keep the momentum going for Ireland. McMullen produced a brilliant
delivery to dismiss Dockrell. Dockrell and Campher added 136 runs for the 6th
wicket. Campher continued his merry way reaching century off 99 balls to help
Ireland recover from a tough situation. Gareth Delany and Campher added 50 runs
for the 7th wicket. At the end of 50 overs, Ireland recovered to
post 286 for 8.
Chasing 287
runs to win, it was not an ideal start for Scotland as Matthew Cross was
dismissed cheaply by Mark Adair. Christopher McBride looked in fine touch
putting pressure on Ireland bowlers and kept the scoreboard ticking. At the end
of the first 10 overs, Scotland made 56 for 1.
Soon after
the field restriction overs, Adair struck to get rid of McMullen. McMullen and
McBride added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket. McBride looked composed,
reaching fifty off 53 deliveries. Ireland bowlers kept picking wickets at
regular intervals to leave Scotland in trouble at 122 for 6.
Michael
Leask and Chris Greaves steadied the ship somewhat before Dockrell dismissed
Greaves caught by McBrine. Leask and Greaves added 30 runs for the 7th
wicket. Leask and Mark Watt showed their class taking singles and hitting
boundaries to keep Scotland back into the game. Dockrell got rid of Mark Watt
with simple stumping. Leask and Watt added 82 runs 8th wicket.
Leask
reached his fifty off 45 deliveries and put pressure back on the Ireland
bowlers. Leask took on Joshua Little in the 47th over to put
Scotland on course. With 8 runs required off final over, Mark Adair dismissed
Sharif caught by Stirling at short third man. Sharif and Leask added 50 runs
for the 9th wicket. Leask hit the winning runs taking inside edge into
boundary helping Scotland win by 1 wicket.
For his unbeaten
91, Michael Leask was named the player of the match award. Scotland began the
tournament with a memorable win.

289 for 9 in 50 overs ( Micheal Leask 91*, Mark Watt 47, Mark Adair 3/57, Joshua
Little 2/73) beat Ireland 286 for 8 in 50 overs ( Curtis Campher 120, Dockrell
69, Brandon McMullen 5/34) by 1 wicket.
Oman vs UAE
Oman
registered a comphrensive win over United Arab Emirates played at Bulawayo Athletic
Club, Bulawayo on 21 June.
Oman
captain Zeeshan Maqsood won the toss and decided to field first. Bilal Khan and
Fayyaz Butt struck to get rid of UAE openers Muhammad Waseem and Rohan Mustafa.
Vritiya Arvind and Rameez Shahzad steadied the ship for UAE putting on 87 runs
for the 3rd wicket.
Oman
bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Aayan Afzal Khan put on
brilliant effort reaching fifty off 48 balls as other UAE batters struggled. UAE
posted just 227 for 8 in 50 overs.
Chasing 228
runs to win, it was not an ideal start as Kashyap Prajapati and Jatinder Singh
fell cheaply to leave Oman in trouble. Ilyas and Shoaib Khan steadied the ship keeping
the scoreboard ticking. Shoaib Khan retired hurt due to an injury while batting
on 47. Ilyas completed half-century off 66 deliveries and was dismissed soon
after. Ilyas and Shoaib added 98 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Oman
captain Zeeshan Maqsood fell cheaply to give UAE some hope. Mohammed Nadeem and
Aayan Khan showed their class putting on 76 runs for the 5th wicket.
Shoaib Khan and Nadeem reached half-centuries to give Oman 5 wicket win with 4
overs to spare.
Oman 228
for 5 in 46 overs ( Aqib Ilyas 53, Shoaib Khan 52*, Junaid Siddique 2/31, Rohan
Mustafa 2/31) beat UAE 227 for 8 in 50 overs ( Ayaan Afazal Khan 58*, Jay
Odedra 3/31) by 5 wickets.
For his 52
off 70 balls, Shoaib Khan was named the player of the match award. With this
win, Oman is at the top of points table.
