ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers Day 9: Netherlands stun West Indies in a high scoring thriller, Zimbabwe produce record win.
The 9th
day of the ICC ODI World Cup qualifiers saw two outstanding contrasting
performances with Zimbabwe producing record win over United States of America
while Netherlands stunned West Indies in a high scoring thriller on 26 June
2023.
Zimbabwe
versus United States of America
Zimbabwe produced
a dominating win in their final league match against United States of America
played at Harare Sports Club, Harare. USA captain Monak Patel won the toss and
decided to field first. Joylord Gumbie and Innocent Kaia got off to a decent
start before Kaia was dismissed. Kaia and Gumbie added 56 runs for the opening
wicket.
Sean
Williams and Gumbie looked in great touch keeping the scoreboard ticking making
life tough for USA bowlers. Williams completed fifty off just 33 deliveries while
Gumbie reached half-century off 73 deliveries. Gumbie and Williams added 160
runs for the 2nd wicket. Williams continued his aggressive touch with
well made century off 65 balls. Williams hammered the USA bowlers along with
Sikandar Raza keeping the scoreboard ticking with ease. Williams and Raza put
on 88 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Ryan Burl
came to the crease and scored a quickfire cameo with 47 off 16 deliveries. Burl
and Williams added 81 runs for the 4th wicket. Sean Williams was eventually
dismissed for 174 helping Zimbabwe post record score of 408 losing 6 wickets.
It was one
way traffic as Zimbabwe bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals to bowl
out USA for 104. There were three run outs in USA innings with Sikandar Raza
and Ngarava picking 2 wickets each, Brad Evans, Jongwe and Burl grabbing 1
wicket each.
With this
win, Zimbabwe will carry four points with them in Super Six stage as they
finished top of points table with.
For his 174
off 101 balls, Sean Williams was named the player of the match award. This performance
will help Zimbabwe to keep steady ahead of Super Six stage.

Jessy Singh 2/97) by 304 runs.
Netherlands
vs West Indies
Netherlands
produced one of the best performances defeating West Indies in a high scoring thriller
played at Takashinga Cricket Club, Harare. Netherlands captain Scott Edwards
won the toss and decided to field first.
Johnson Charles
and Brandon King got the team off to a decent start putting pressure on the
Netherlands bowling. Both scored 61 runs in the first 10 overs. Charles
completed half-century off 48 deliveries to keep the scoreboard ticking. Kingma
got breakthrough dismissing Charles to end 101 runs opening partnership.
It was a
brilliant batting effort by West Indies batters as Shai Hope played a decent
hand before Nicolas Pooran plundered opposition bowling with unbeaten century
along with quickfire by Keemo Paul. Brooks and King added 59 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Pooran
looked in sublime touch reaching fifty off just 38 deliveries and continued to
play with attacking mindset. Hope and Pooran added 108 runs for the 4th
wicket.
West Indies
lost 2 more quick wickets of Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder. Pooran completed
century off 63 deliveries putting on unbeaten 79 runs for the 7th
wicket. West Indies posted mammoth total of 374 for 6 in 50 overs.
Chasing 375
runs to win, Vikramjit Singh and Max O Dowd provided aggressive start putting
pressure on West Indies bowling. At the end of 10 overs, Netherlands openers
raced to 71 for 0.
Chase
dismissed O Dowd to break 76 runs opening partnership. Chase then struck to get
rid of Vikramjit Singh. Bas de Leede and Wesley Barresi steadied the ship for
Netherlands putting on 38 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Scott
Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru regarded the Netherlands innings with a brilliant
partnership taking singles and hitting boundaries. Neither batter allowed West
Indies bowlers to settle.
Nidamanuru
completed his half-century off 40 deliveries while Scott Edwards also reached
fifty off 33 balls to keep Netherlands on course for a famous win. Chase struck
to get rid of Netherlands captain Edwards with a simple return catch. Edwards
and Nidamanuru added 143 runs for the 5th wicket. West Indies got
wickets of Zulfiqar and Nidamanuru to stall Netherlands progress.
Logan Van Beek
took charge against Roston Chase in the 49th over along with Aryan
Dutt. Jospeh ended the resistance dismissing Dutt providing easy catch to Chase
at short third man. Dutt and Beek added 44 runs for the 8th wicket.
With 1 run required from final delivery, Beek could not cross the line as match
ended in a tie.
Beek came
to the crease in the Super Six and smashed 30 runs against Jason Holder. He
delivered the goods with ball dismissing Charles and Shepherd to help Netherlands
stun West Indies.
With this
win, Netherlands will carry 2 points into the Super Six Stage while West Indies
would not carry any points and need to win all three matches before hoping
other results go their way.
For his all-round
performance, Logan Van Beek was named the player of the match award.

1 over ( Logan Van Beek 30*) beat West Indies 374 for 6 in 50 overs ( Pooran 104*,
King 76, Saqib Zulfiqar 2/43) and 8 for 2 in 1 over ( Charles 6, Beek 2/8) in
Super Over.
