Indonesia Open 2023: 3 Indians progress into the quarterfinals
It was a
good day for the Indian shuttlers as 3 out of 5 progressed into the
quarterfinals of Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2023 played in Jakarta, Indonesia on
15 June.
Kidambi
Srikanth started the day with a straight game win over his compatriot Lakshya
Sen. It was a closely fought affair right from word go as there were long
rallies. Srikanth fought back strongly to take slender 11-10 lead at the break.
After the interval, both players took alternate points till 17-17 before
Srikanth took 4 points in succession to win the first game 21-17.
The second was
another closely fought affair as both players fought for each point. After the
break, both players continued making aggressive moves before Srikanth held onto
his nerves to win second game 22-20 to move into the quarterfinals. He will now
face Li S F of China.
HS Prannoy
cruised past into the quarterfinals with straight game win over Na Ka Long Anus
of Hong Kong, China. It was a dominating performance by the Indian who looked
in complete control right from the word go winning it by 21-18, 21-16. He will
face Kodai Naroka of Japan.
Pranshu
Rajawat went down fighting to Anthony Gingting of Indonesia in three games. The
first game was a closely fought affair as neither player did not allow to get a
big lead. Rajawat held onto his nerves to win it by 22-20. Gingting showed his experience
winning the next two games by 21-15, 21-15 to move into the next round.
PV Sindhu
lost to her nemesis Tai Tzu Ying in two straight games. Sindhu was not able to
keep pace with the variations that her opponent produced. At the mid-game interval,
Tai had an 11-5 lead. After the break, Sindhu tried to make a comeback with
good points, but her opponent won the first game by 21-18.
The second
game saw Tai making another good start, but this time Sindhu showed some fight
with brilliant shots. At the mid-game break, Tai led 11-8. After the interval,
the Indian kept pressure on her opponent and took lead for the first time. Tai played
with aggression and showed her class to win the match 21-16 to move into quarterfinals.
Satwik/Chirag
Shetty moved into the quarterfinals with straight game win over He JT and Zhou
HD of China. It was a dominating performance by the Indian pair winning it by
21-17, 21-15 to move into the quarterfinals. They will now face top seeded F
Alfian and M R Aridanto of Indonesia.
