Indonesia Open 2023 Quarterfinals: HS Prannoy and doubles pair move into the semi-finals.
It was
another impressive day for the Indian shuttlers as HS Prannoy and men’s doubles
pair progressed into semi-finals of Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2023 played in
Jakarta, Indonesia on 16 June.
HS Prannoy
showed his class with straight game win over third seeded Kodai Naraoka of
Japan. It was a closely fought affair between these two players. At the
mid-game interval, Prannoy had an 11-9 lead. After the break, the match ebbed and
flowed before the Indian won the first game at 21-18.
The second
game saw Kodai Naroka begin with an attacking display of badminton and kept the
pressure back on Prannoy in the initial stages. There were long rallies but
this time, Japanese had 11-9 lead at the break. After the break, Prannoy fought
back strongly and showed his class with brilliant shots winning points in succession
to win the match by 21-16. He will now face Victor Axelsen.
Satwik/Chirag
Shetty stunned the top seeded F Alfian and Aridanto in two straight games. It
was a dominating performance by Indian pair playing with aggression right from
word go and putting pressure on the Indonesian. The first game saw the Indian
pair taking 11-7 lead at the break. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Satwik
and Chirag won the first game 21-13.
The second
game saw both pairs fighting for each point till 7-7. Satwik and Chirag showed
their class taking an 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, the Indian
pair continued their domination winning it by 21-13 to move into the
semi-finals. They will now face Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea.
Kidambi
Srikanth went down fighting to Li SF of China in three games. Both players
began the match with lovely shots, keeping pressure on each other. At the
mid-game interval, Li took 11-7 lead. After the break, Srikanth committed lots
of unforced errors as Chinese won the first game 21-14.
The second
game began with players taking alternate points till 5-5. Srikanth showed his
class and put pressure on Chinese taking 11-6 lead at the break. After the
break, the Indian continued his domination winning it by 21-14 to force match
into decider.
Li showed
his in the third and final game with the Indian committing lots of errors. At
the mid-game break, Chinese had 11-6 lead at break. It was one-way traffic as
the Chinese won it by 21-12 to progress into semi-finals.
