India Open 2024: HS Prannoy Progress Into The Second Round
The Indian shuttlers had a decent outing as HS Prannoy progressed into the second round of the Super 750 India Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Delhi on 16th January 2024.
HS Prannoy produced a dominating performance in the first
round with a straight-set win over Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. It was an
impressive effort by Indian who looked in great form during the first set
winning by 21-6. He showed his class with another superb effort to win the
second set at 21-18 to move into the second round.
Pranshu Rajawat stunned Indian teammate Lakshya Sen in three
thrilling games. Lakshya Sen won the first game comfortably at 21-16 before
Rajawat made a strong comeback winning the second game at 21-16 before winning the
decider at 21-13 to move into the next round. He will play HS Prannoy in the second
round.
Kiran George lost to Wang T W of Chinese Taipei in two
straight games. He looked out of sorts losing the match by 12-21, 15-21.
Kidambi Srikanth and qualifier Karunakaran will play their
first-round matches tomorrow. The men’s doubles section saw Dhruv Kapila and MR
Arjun lost in straight games to Lee Y and Wang C of Chinese Taipei in straight
games by 9-21, 13-21.
Satwik/Chirag Shetty will play their first-round match
against Lee F C and Lee F J of Chinese Taipei tomorrow.
The women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand
went down fighting to Matsuyama and Shida in three games. Jolly and Gopichand
won the first game by 21-18 before the Japanese pairing made a strong comeback
winning the next two games with the scoreboard at 21-14, 21-13.
Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa will play their first-round match against the Thailand pair tomorrow.
