India Open 2024: Indian Shuttlers Participation In The Tournament
The Indian shuttlers will look to showcase their skills in front of the home crowd when they take part in the Super 750 Indian Open that will take place from 16th January at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
In the men’s singles, HS Prannoy will have a tough challenge taking
on Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the first round. He had a disappointing
outing when he was knocked out in the first round of the Malaysia Open 2024 to
Anders Anotsen in straight sets.
Lakshya Sen will face Pranshu Rajawat in the first round during
an all-India clash. Sen lost in the first round of the Malaysia Open while Rajawat
will play for the 1st time this year.
Kidambi Srikanth would take on Lee Chik Yu of Hong Kong in
the first round. He lost in the second round of Malaysia after stunning
Jonathan Christie.
There will be no participation in the women’s singles
section as PV Sindhu is recovering from an injury that kept her out of action.
Satwik/Chirag Shetty will look to continue their great form as
they finished runners-up in the Malaysia Open event. They would face Lee F-C
and Lee F-J of Chinese Taipei in the first round.
The women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri
Gopichand would play their first tournament would face Matsuyama and Shida
of Japan in the first round. They would like to forget their performances and
start fresh with a good start against a strong Japanese pair.
Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa will face Thailand
pairing of Kititharakul and Prajongai. The Indian pairing reached the
quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open.
There will be no pairing for India in the mixed doubles category
during this tournament. HS Prannoy, Srikanth would look to perform well and
gain confidence ahead of the next rounds. Victor Axelsen has withdrawn from the
tournament.
